Mrs. Eileen Nerea Ritter passed away on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, after a brief illness. Preceding her in death was her husband of 62 years, Richard P. Ritter, her father, Thomas P. Hughes II, her mother, Nerea E. Hughes, two sisters, Ruth Ann Tuliper and Janet M. LaBelle, two brothers, John H. Hughes, Thomas P. Hughes, III and two nephews, Thomas P. Hughes IV and Michael Morgan, and niece Amie Morgan.
She is survived by one sister, Martha L. DuBray, her husband, Gary H. DuBray and brother, David A. Hughes, six very special nieces/great nieces, Lynn Buffum, Betsy (Betty) Thomas, Jessie Cantor, Marlena Silva, Carla LaBelle, Peggy Mayhew and five great nephews, Kyle Buffum, Joseph Hughes, Shawn Hughes, David Hughes, Burton Peck; and sister-in-law, Ardeena Harris and two special caregivers, Dana Randall and Shirley Vogt, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends, too numerous to mention.
Eileen was born and raised in Rutland, VT. She attended Mount St. Joseph Academy, graduating in 1957. Upon graduating, Eileen was looking for a new adventure, she turned to the United States Air Force for a rewarding career. After Basic training, she attended Supply Tech School at F.E. Warren AFB, Cheyenne, WY. Her first permanent duty station became McGuire AFB, NJ. While performing her mission support duties, she met and later married Richard P. Ritter. Eileen completed her USAF enlistment in 1961 with an Honorable discharge. She then entered the Dept of Defense, Federal Civil Service as a Supply Technician. In the course of performing her extensive duties and following a “supply” career path, she completed numerous Government Technical and management training schools. She also transferred to other Military Bases within the United States in support of her husband's Military Career. Leaving McGuire AFB in 1965 she took a position at Andrews AFB, Washington D.C. The mission of her unit was the total support of the Presidential Air Wing and base activities. Her last reassignment in 1978 was to Griffiss AFB, Rome, NY. Eileen retired from civil service as the Base Supply Stock Control Officer in February 1995, capping off a very rewarding and interesting 38 year career with the Dept of Defense which she was recognized with numerous awards and Letters of Appreciation. Later in 1995 she and her husband decided to bid farewell to snow and cold, relocating to Goldsboro, NC, the land of brilliant sunshine. Both enjoyed their retirement by traveling extensively in their RV.
Eileen will be interned at the family plot in Beechwood Cemetery, Forestport, NY by Trainor's Funeral Home, Boonville, NY, at a date and time to be announced. There are no services or viewing scheduled.
