~~Boonville - Edward P. Kolasa, 93, longtime resident of West Street, more recently of Sunset Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, passed away on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at St. Lukes Memorial Hospital, New Hartford. Ed was born on June 7, 1924 in Clarence, Pennsylvania, a son of Frank J. and Angeline M. Kolasa. As a young child he moved with his family to Boonville. He grew up on the family farm on Kolasa Road and graduated from Boonville Central School with the Class of 1943. Following his education he assisted his family with the operation of their farm and began his employment with Presta Bros. Auto Shop, Boonville. Thereafter he established his own business, Kolasa Body Shop in downtown Boonville. Ed eventually moved the shop to Post Street, where he continued its operation until he retired in 1986. On August 29, 1953 Ed was united in marriage with Audrey Mackey at St. Johns Church, Lyons Falls. For a time the couple lived in Lyons Falls, before moving to a home they built on West Street in Boonville. Mrs. Kolasa passed away on December 3, 2012. Ed had a passion for his profession and besides the day to day operations of his business he enjoyed restoring antique automobiles and was especially proud of his 1962 Ford Thunderbird and 1955 Pontiac Star Chief. He also looked forward to and attended many car shows locally and in Carlisle, PA. Ed found joy in the flower and vegetable gardens he raised, following NASCAR, and cherished the time spent with his children and grandchildren. Ed is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law: Lori (Barry) Pfendler, Jeanne (Bill) Szucs, his grandchildren: Drew and Matt Pfendler, Brittany (Kevin) Valenti, and Morgan Szucs, all of Boonville, and several nieces and nephews. Besides his wife Audrey, he was predeceased by his siblings: Mildred Boc, John Kolasa, and Josephine Egnaczyk. His funeral will be held on Saturday, October 14, beginning with an 8:15 am prayer service at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 am at St. Josephs Church of Christ our Hope Parish, Boonville. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Port Leyden. Calling Hours will be held on Friday from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Boonville Fire Co. Ambulance Fund, P.O. Box #164, Boonville, NY 13309.
