Edward Fintan Sullivan, 82, a long time resident of West Road, Constableville, husband of Verna, passed away suddenly at his residence on Friday, September 21, 2007. He was born in the hamlet of Highmarket, on February 17, 1925, a son of William and Agnes Hoffert Sullivan. He grew up in the vicinity of Highmarket, attending the Byronï¿(TM)s Corners Rural School. After his education, he was employed on area dairy farms. In September, 1944, Mr. Sullivan entered the U.S. Army, serving in the 407th Infantry 102 Division in the European Theater of WWII. He was honorably discharged from the military in April, 1946. After the war, Edward was employed first as a log truck driver in the woodlands dept. of Gould Paper Co., and then as a mechanic in the paper company steam plant, retiring in 1987 from Georgia Pacific Paper Co. of Lyons Falls. On September 28, 1946, Edward was united in marriage with Verna Dale, at St. Josephï¿(TM)s Church, Boonville, with Rev. Robert Driscoll officiating. This was a marriage that endured just short of sixty one years. After their marriage the couple lived in Talcottville until 1971, when they moved to their present home. Mr. Sullivan was a member of St. Maryï¿(TM)s Church, Constableville, and Boonville Council Knights of Columbus. He greatly enjoyed raising vegetables in his garden, and was noted for his "first prize" potatoes and tomatoes. He received the greatest of enjoyment from giving his produce to his family friends, and anyone in need. He loved the outdoors, hunting, and cutting his firewood at his camp in Highmarket. In addition to his wife, Verna, Edward is survived by two daughters and sons in law: Judy Warfel, and Bill, Scottsville, VA., Betsy Baker and Randy, Binghamton, four sons, and two daughters in law; Edward Sullivan, Jr., at home, Michael J. Sullivan and Katrina, Constableville, Christopher J. Sullivan, at home, Mark A. Sullivan and Courtney, Constableville, ten grandchildren, three great grandchildren, one sister and bother in law; Mary and Willard Thayer, Boonville, three brothers, and one sister in law; Ervin J. Sullivan, Boonville, Loren H. Sullivan, and Percy A. and Irma Sullivan, both of Port Leyden, and by a sister in law, Eleanor Sullivan, Talcottville. He was predeceased by two brothers; Robert W. and Patrick J. His Funeral will be Wednesday, at 11:00 A.M. at St. Maryï¿(TM)s Church, Constableville, where Rev. Lawrence Marullo, pastor will celebrated a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in St. Patrickï¿(TM)s Cemetery, Constableville, where members of Charles J. Love Post American Legion, Harland J. Hennessey Post V.F.W., and the Tun Tavern Marine Corps League all of Boonville will conduct military rites. Calling hours are Monday 7-9 P.M. and Tuesday 2-4 & 7-9 P.M. at the Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville. Memorial contributions may be made to Constableville Fire Co. Ambulance Fund.
