Forestport- Douglas J. Miller, 47, of North Lake Road, passed away suddenly at St. Lukes Memorial Hospital, New Hartford, on Monday, June 4, 2018. Affectionately known as Dougie, he was born in New Hartford, on April 22, 1971, a son of William J. and Sandra Burke Miller. A life resident of Forestport, Dougie grew up on Division St. and attended Forestport Elementary School, before completing his education at Adirondack High School, Boonville, where he graduated with the Class of 1989. While in high school he attended the Howard G. Sackett BOCES Center, Glenfield, majoring in carpentry and building construction. Upon his high school graduation, Doug began his successful career in carpentry and building with Ed Hinge of Barneveld. Afterwards for nearly 30 years, until the present time, Doug was employed as a carpenter for Lennon Construction Co. of Remsen. Doug was a long time member of The Forestport Fire Fighters, Inc., where he served as Fire Chief, for 7 years. He was also a member of Boonville Elks Lodge # 2158. While he was growing up, he enjoyed playing on Little League Baseball Teams and Babe Ruth Baseball, both in Forestport. Later he enjoyed playing softball. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and the outdoors. The lights of Dougs life were his parents, children and his significant other Heather and her son, Chase. He greatly enjoyed and looked forward to attending Pop Warner Football Games with his sons, Zack and Alex, and Heathers boys, Chase and Blake. Doug found much enjoyment ice fishing on Racquett Lake, a sport which he enjoyed sharing with his sons. In addition to his parents, William Bill and Sandy Miller, of Forestport, Doug is survived by two sons, Alexander and Zachary, both at home, with their mother, Melinda Mazurowski; a brother and sister in law, Gary (Jennifer) Miller, Racquette Lake; two nieces, Dakota and Autumn and a nephew Taylor. He is also survived by his long-time significant other, Heather Levensailor and her son Chase, which Doug had raised since the age of two. He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, William and Betty Miller and by his maternal grandparents, Gordon and Nellie Burke. His Funeral will be on Saturday at 12 Noon, at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, with interment to follow in Woodgate Cemetery. Calling hours are Friday, 1-4 & 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home and on Saturday from 11:00 A.M. until the funeral.
