Dorothy W. Mudge

Westernville- Dorothy (Watson) Mudge, 87, a long time resident of Main St., widow of Millard W. passed away on Tuesday, January 29, 2013, while surrounded by the loving care of her family, at the home of her son, John, on River Road, in Rome. She was born in the Town of Marcy, on September 17, 1925, a daughter of George Milton and Mary Elizabeth Doty Watson. She grew up in the Marcy area, graduating from Holland Patent High School, with the Class of 1941. Later Dorothy moved to Verona and was employed as a secretary at Rome Cable Company. On June 26, 1948, Dorothy was united in marriage with Millard W. Mudge, at the Verona United Methodist Church. After that the couple lived on Main St. in Westernville. Their marriage was a fifty year expression of love and devotion to each other; Mr. Mudge passed away on August 23, 1998. Mrs. Mudge was a long time active member of Westernville United Methodist Church. Dorothy greatly enjoyed cooking and baking, for many years she baked pies for the Woods Valley Ski Area of Westernville. No one ever went hungry when visiting the Mudge family residence. Dorothy took special delight in feeding the hungry and giving freely of produce raised in her gardens. She also enjoyed raising flowers, and she took in many infant foster children, raising the children until they were placed in a permanent home. Dorothy loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by three daughters and their families; Karen Mudge (Quick) Rome, and her children, James (Jennifer) Thompson, Elizabeth Quick, Timothy Quick and Todd Quick; Mary Elizabeth (Cliff) Kostuk, Cortland, and their children, Andrew Kostuk, Lauren Kostuk and Katherine Kostuk and Doty (Steve) Campbell, Westmoreland; she was predeceased by a daughter, Nancy Mudge Quick; her children, David, Jr. and Karen Ruth Quick, survive; two sons, John J. Mudge, Westernville, Pastor Bill (Shari) Mudge, Boonville and their children, Rebekah (Paul) Ashman, Benjamin (Danielle) Mudge, Sarah Mudge and Hannah Mudge and John J. Mudge, Westernville and several great grandchildren; one brother, Charles (Jeanette) Watson, McConnellsville and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers, George and James and by sisters, Ruth Frank, Elizabeth McCumber and Clara Ellis. Her Funeral will be Friday at 4 p.m. at the Rome First United Methodist Church, 212 West Embargo St. Rome. Interment in the spring will be in Westernville Cemetery. Visitation is Friday 1-4 P.M. at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc. 4277 Middle Settlement Road, New Hartford, NY 13433.
