Dorothy Jane Vanetten

April 1, 1926 — August 2, 2015

Lee Center- Dorothy Jane (Pratt) VanEtten, 89, affectionatley known as Jane, a long time resident of Sulphur Springs Road, wife of Howard, passed away on Sunday, August 2, 2015, at Sunset Nursing & Rehabilitaiton Center, Boonville, while surrounded by the loving care of her husband and family. She was born on the Struen Road, Town of Lee, on April 1, 1926, a daughter of Merritt and Dorothy Morse Pratt. Dorothy grew up on the Struen Road, before moving to McConnellsville, receiving her education at a rural school in the Town of Lee. On September 2, 1945, Dorothy was united in marriage with Howard J. VanEtten, in Marcy, NY. This was a loving union that endured for nearly 70 years. After that the couple lived in Utica, and then Marcy, before moving to their present home in Lee Center in 1961. For many years she greatly enjoyed corchetting quits, cooking, baking and hosting family dinners. She also enjoyed painting and finishing ceramics, and raising roses. Dorothy will be fondly remembered as a kind and loving person who lovlingly cared for many family members. In addition to her husband, Howard, of Lee Center, she is survived by one son and daughter in law, Thomas H. (Gail) VenEtten, Lee Center, and Pickens, SC. She was predeceased by a daughter, Dorothy Ann Baldyga, on September 17, 1997. Also surviving are six grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren; one brother, Eugene Pratt, Rush, NY; two sisters, Olive VanEtten, Bridgeport, and Annette Peavey, Utica. Dorothy's family wishes to express their sincere thanks and heartfelt appreciation to the entire staff and management of Sunset Nursing & Rehabilitation Center for the excellent and kind and compassionate care they gave to Dorothy and to Dorothy's family during her residence at the nursing facility. Her Funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m.at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, with interment in Evergreen Cemetery, Town of Lee. Calling hours are Thursday from 12 noon until the funeral. Memorial contributions may be made to Sunset Nursing & Rehabilitation Center Resident Activities Fund, 232 Academy St. Boonville, NY 13309.
