Boonville - Dorothy Gleasman Young, 86, a formerly of Brown Road near Talcottville, passed away on Monday, October 26, 2009 at the Lewis County Extended Care Facility in Lowville after a long illness. She was born on February 20, 1923 at Redmond Corners near Boonville, a daughter of Romeyn and Anna Dora Zeigler Gleasman. She attended and graduated from Boonville High School with the Class of 1941. She was employed in several restaurants in Boonville and Miami, FL. On February 15, 1946, Dorothy was united in marriage with Mark A. Young of Turin at Trinity Episcopal Church in Lowville with the Reverend Walter Bennett officiating. In October of 1946 the couple purchased the former Elmer Brown farm near Talcottville. They operated the farm until 1957 when they sold most of the land, although continuing to live at that location. In 1958 Mrs. Young began her employment at Boonville Manufacturing Co., where she was employed for thirty years by Robert D. Dustin and Richard M. Dustin. She was later employed at Otis Gun Cleaning Company in Talcottville from 1989 until her retirement in 1995. Dorothy was a member of the Talcottville Untied Methodist Church. Dorothy is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Kay and Wayne Youngs of Greenfield Center, NY; one son and daughter-in-law, Herbert and Gail Young of Boonville; four grandsons, Andy Youngs of Rock City Falls, NY, Jason Youngs of Porter Corners, NY, and Mark and Brad Young of Boonville; four great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Treva Shaw of Lowville; and several nieces and nephews. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband, Mark, on May 30, 1964; a son, Martin, in 1969; three brothers, Ralph, Stuart and Howard; and a sister, Ruth Platt. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a graveside service on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Boonville Cemetery, where the Reverend William A. Mudge, pastor of the Boonville United Methodist Church, will officiate. There are no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to Talcottville United Methodist Church or to the Alzheimer's Association of CNY, 441 West Kirkpatrick Street, Syracuse, NY 13204. Her arrangements are in care of Trainor Funeral Home, Inc., 143 Schuyler Street, Boonville, NY 13309.
