Dorothy G. Taylor

November 8, 1935 — June 25, 2024

New Hartford, NY - Dorothy Grove Taylor, (Dottie), was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, June 25, 2024. She was born in Hamilton, Maryland, to William and Louise Grove. Dorothy has one surviving sibling, William Grove (Shirley) of Jarrettsville, MD.

Growing up, Dorothy attended Epiphany Lutheran Church in Baltimore, MD. Dorothy graduated from Lutheran Hospital Nursing School, Baltimore. After working in hospitals, Dottie worked as a pediatric registered nurse for 22 years in a private practice.

Dorothy married James S. Taylor on March 16, 1958, at Epiphany Lutheran Church. The Taylors were married for 54 wonderful years and raised four children together: Douglas W. Taylor, (Robin) of Monroe Township, NJ; Bruce W. Taylor (deceased), Ruth (Taylor) Hedeen, (David) of Boonville, NY, and Stephen C. Taylor (Amanda) of Chattanooga, TN. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Jim.

Dottie was a proud Nana to 10 grandchildren: Mitchel; (Holly); Calvin (Renée); Scott; Zachary (deceased), Mason (Rebecca); Nathaniel (Alexis); Evan (Emily); Rebekah; Janelle, and Elisabeth. Dorothy was also a great-grandmother to four children: Nicole, Naomi, William, and James.

Dorothy's faith in Christ was the cornerstone of her life, and she served the Lord at Central Presbyterian Church and the Christian Community Center in Baltimore, MD. For many years, she participated in Bible studies and women’s ministries, sang in the church choir, and opened her home to hundreds of friends. She loved supporting and caring for various Christian missionaries. Dottie and her husband traveled to Kenya two times to assist in mission work and found great joy as she helped others worldwide. Her dedication to these communities was a testament to her unwavering faith and commitment to Christ and others.

In 2014, Dottie moved to New Hartford, New York. Here, she invested in her family, new friends, and church. In addition to her continued ministry to missionaries, Dottie also encouraged others—young and old--through hand-written notes. She enjoyed a variety of activities, including birding, gardening, reading, and concerts.

A memorial service to honor Dottie's life will be held at the Boonville Alliance Church on Sunday, June 30, at 3 p.m. The service will be officiated by the Rev. David Hedeen, followed by a reception at the church. A burial and a memorial service at Central Presbyterian Church in Baltimore, MD, will take place Monday, July 22.

In lieu of flowers, please consider supporting the ministries of the Christian Community Center, 1412 Hollins Street, Baltimore, MD 21233.

“This I declare about the LORD: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I trust him” (Psalm 91:2).
