Forestport- Dorothea (Shanks) Rose, 89, a former long time resident of Woodhull St., and a more recent resident of Wheelock Estates, on Wheelock Drive, Boonville, passed away on Wednesday, April 30, 2008, at Sunset Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Boonville. Dorothea was born in New York Mills, on November 10, 1918, a daughter of William D. and Reba S. Kilborn Shanks. She grew up in Forestport, graduating from Forestport Central School with the Class of 1934. Thereafter she attended Cornell University, earning a Bachelors degree, graduating with the Class of 1938. For a time she taught French in the Malone school district. During WWII, Mrs. Rose served as a Wave with the U.S. Navy. On June 29, 1945, Dorothea was united in marriage with Paul C. Rose at St. Patrick's Church, Forestport. Mr. Rose, a WW II veteran, and owner of an auto garage in Forestport, died on August 23, 1991. Dorothea was a member of Forestport Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Rose is survived by one daughter and son in law, Marianne and John Paquin, Boonville, three sons; Neal Rose and Kelly, Oneida, William and Yaschika Rose, Olathe, KA., John Rose, Chicago, IL, six beloved grandchildren: William Ritter, Jr., Steve Ritter, Jennifer and Jessica Rose, Paul and Eva Rose, one great granddaughter, Sadie Kaye Ritter, one sister, Annette Flynn, Utica, and a brother, Joseph Parent, Portland, OR. She was predeceased by two sisters, Marion Hahn, and Laura Kohl, and by a brother, William D. Shanks. In keeping with her wishes, a graveside service will be held at a later date at St. Patrick's Cemetery, Forestport. There are no calling hours. Arrangements are in care of Trainor Funeral Home, Inc., Boonville.
