Doris Murray Lamphear, 95, of Raquette Lake, passed away on May 13, 2023 at Sunset Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Boonville, NY.
Doris was born June 12, 1927, in Chadwicks, the daughter of Edward and Florence Murray. She was a 1945 graduate of Sauquoit Valley Central School.
On March 25, 1949 she married Frank J. Lamphear in Raquette Lake. Mr. Lamphear, a Marine Corps veteran, served as a NYS Conservation Officer for 32 years. Frank died on May 29, 2004.
Doris is survived by her children: Joel (Mary) Lamphear, Raquette Lake: Jane Selby (boyfriend Dan), Elberon, Iowa: Paula (Ed) Bender, Cape Vincent: Don Lamphear, Raquette Lake: Murray (Karen) Lamphear, Raquette Lake: Craig Lamphear, Raquette Lake: Brian Lamphear, Inlet, eleven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Doris was also very close to her nephew, Bill Jones, and his wife, Dolores, Clayville, along with their children and grandchildren.
Doris’ family wish to thank Jim Dillon, Raquette Lake, for being their Mom’s Uber driver for church services for many years. Any time her children mentioned Jim to her, she would say, “I just love Jim Dillon”. Her family also wishes to thank all the caring and compassionate staff at Sunset Nursing Home.
Along with her parents and husband Frank, Doris is predeceased by her three sisters; Rita Hope, Lois Jones, and Marcia Ford.
Doris was a former communicant of St. Williams Catholic Church, Raquette Lake, and for many years attended St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Blue Mountain Lake.
Doris enjoyed making beautiful wool rugs for her family and friends, filling scrapbooks, keeping family albums, and playing in the Long Lake Kazoo Band.
Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery, Lyons Falls.
