Ava- Doris M. Howard, 82, widow of George, passed away on Sunday, December 4, 2016 at Sunset Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Boonville, where she had resided since March. She was born in Boonville, on December 5, 1933 a daughter of Glen and Marjorie Judd Pfendler. She grew up on Jackson Hill, and was a graduate of Boonville High School with the Class of 1951. For a time she was employed at Griffiss Air Force Base, Rome, where she worked as a telephone operator and store clerk. On May 17, 1957 she was united in marriage with George Howard in Boonville. Together the couple moved to Ava where they raised their family. Mr. Howard, a veteran of the Korean Conflict passed away on July 7, 1983. Doris enjoyed knitting as well as going out and snow-shoeing in the winter months. She was of the Catholic faith, and for many years attended St. Mary's Nativity Church, West Leyden. She is survived by her sons: Steven, Boonville, James, Lee Center, Richard, Ava, and Doug, West Branch; two granddaughters Sarah and Stacey Howard. Also surviving is her significant other Stanley Mazur, Highmarket, and her siblings: William (Bernice) Pfendler, Westernville, Marion Brown, Boonville, and Diana (Jim) Jackson, Boonville. Besides her husband she was predeceased by her brother Leo Pfendler, and sister Betty Pfendler. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, December 7, beginning with a 10:15 am prayer service at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, followed by her Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am at St. Joseph's Church of Christ Our Hope Parish, Boonville, where Rev. Thomas Ward will officiate. Interment in Boonville Cemetery will be held in the spring. Calling Hours will be held on Tuesday from 5:00 - 8:00 pm at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Sunset Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, 232 Academy Street, Boonville, NY 13309.
