Donald J. Zeigler

Boonville- Donald J. Zeigler, 90, of State Rt. 294, husband of Estella, passed away at his residence on Thursday, April 7, 2016, while surrounded by the loving care of his wife, and daughters and Hospice Care. He was born in the Town of Leyden, on August 21, 1925, a son of John E. and Lucy Akins Zeigler. Don grew up in the Boonville area, where he attended Boonville Central School. On October 27, 1943, at the age of 18, Mr. Zeigler entered the U.S. Navy, serving his country in the Pacific Theater of WWII. He was honorably discharged on April 18, 1946, returning to Boonville. On October 19, 1946, Donald was united in marriage with Estella Brown, at Trinity Episcopal Church, Boonville. This was a loving union of nearly 70 years. For many years Mr. Zeigler was employed for Jackson Furniture Co. Boonville, first in furniture sales and later in carpet and floor covering installation. Subsequently for several years, he was self-employed in floor covering installation. Mr. Zeigler was a member of Charles J. Love Post # 406, American Legion, Boonville, Harland J. Hennessey Post V.F.W. Boonville and the Boonville Elks Lodge # 2158 In addition to his wife, Estella, Don is survived by two daughters, Donna J. Cukrovany, Schaghticoke, NY, Cheri A. (Donald) Fitzpatrick, Troy, NY, six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Kenneth R. Zeigler in March 1969. Also surviving are two brothers, Richard (Hattie) Zeigler, Robert (Elinor) Zeigler, all of Boonville; one sister, Carol (Butch) Johnson, Boonville and a sister in law, Shirley Zeigler, Attleboro, MA. He was predeceased by a brother, Karl, and by a son in law, Richard Cukrovany. His Funeral will be Sunday at 2:00 P.M. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. where calling hours are Sunday from 12 noon until the funeral. Interment will be private in Boonville Cemetery. Members of Charles J. Love Post American Legion, Harland J. Hennessey Post V.F.W. and Tun Tavern Marine Corps League will meet in a group on Sunday at 2:00 P.M. at the funeral home for Military Rites.
