Boonville- Donald F. Young, Sr., 87 of Post St. a native and life resident of Boonville and husband of Mabel, passed away at his residence, on Wednesday, November 27, 2013 while surrounded by the loving care of his family and hospice. He was born on October 1, 1926, a son of Frederick and Hazel Peters Young. Don grew up on Seiter St., and received his education in Boonville; afterwards he was employed at Rome Soap Factory. Mr. Young served his country, during WWII, in the United States Navy, from 1944, until his honorable discharge at Lido Beach, LI in July, 1946. On May 1, 1948, in Boonville, Donald was united in marriage with Mabel Schleicher Young. This was a happy and blessed union of 60 years, until Mabel passed away on November 5, 2008. After serving his country, Don began his employment at Gould Paper Co. in Lyons Falls, where he was employed for over 40 years, retiring from the paper testing lab of Georgia Pacific Paper Co. in 1988. Don was a member of the First Baptist Church of Boonville, and the Charles J. Love Post American Legion. He enjoyed doing carpentry, being outdoors, hunting, fishing, and gardening. He enjoyed time spent at this hunting camp. He will be fondly remembered for his keen sense of humor and for the many ways that Don reached out to help people wherever he was. In addition to his wife and family he greatly enjoyed Yankees Baseball, music and playing different musical instruments. He is survived by his children, Franklin Young, Boonville, Brenda Webster, Constableville, Kim (Linda) Young, Boonville, Jill Young, Boonville, and Trudy (Melvin) Drake, Lee Center. A son, Donnie, predeceased him in 1977. Also surviving are ten grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a grandson, Rory, in 2009. Also surviving are three sisters, Sandy (Charles) Matthews, Boonville, Shirley Edick, South Carolina, and Virginia Siegler, Rome. He was predeceased by a brother Lynn, who died at birth and by sisters, Velma Young and Vera Gladwin. His Funeral will be Saturday at 4:00 P.M. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, where Pastor Joseph Feller, of the First Baptist Church will officiate. Interment in the spring with Military Rites will be in Boonville Cemetery. Calling hours are Saturday from 1-4 P.M. at the funeral home.
