New Hartford- Donald C. Witzigman, 84, formerly of Upper Woods Circle, husband of the late Elizabeth L., passed away, after a long illness at the Katherine Luther Home, Clinton, on Thursday, August 8, 2019. Donald was born in Rome, on November 29, 1934, a son of George P. and Bernice Schoff Witzigman. Don grew up in West Leyden, where he received his education, graduating from West Leyden High School as Valedictorian with the Class of 1953. Thereafter he served his country during the Korean Conflict, in the U.S. Army, from September, 1953, until his honorable discharge, from Fort Campbell, KY, with the rank of Corporal, on August 29, 1955. From 1955 until he graduated in 1957, Don attended Mohawk Valley Technical Institute, Rome, (now MVCC), where he earned an Associate Degree in Applied Science. From 1958 until he retired in 1993, Mr. Witzigman was employed for General Electric, Utica, as a digital designer. On August 22, 1959, Don was united in marriage with Elizabeth Betty Jackson, at St. Josephs Church, Boonville, with Rev. Robert Donovan officiating. Their union of marriage flourished for nearly fifty eight years, until Betty, a retired Registered Nurse in the Utica area, passed away on March 5, 2017. Afterwards the couple lived in Utica, before constructing a home on Combs Road, near Holland Patent, where they lived for many years, before moving to New Hartford. Mr. Witzigman was a member of Church of Our Lady of Lourdes, Utica. In 1989, he and Betty constructed a camp near Ava, on the banks of Fish Creek, where he and Betty, greatly enjoyed spending time. Don is survived by two daughters, Karen (larry) Gardner, Boonville, Ellen Teachout, Whitesboro; grandchildren, Christopher, Brian, Kaitlyn and Nicholas, five great grandchildren; one brother, Norbert Witzigman, (Ramona), Hinsdale, NY and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a grandson, Justin Witzigman, and by a brother, William, in 2003. His Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday at 10:00 A.M. at St. Josephs Church, Charles St. Boonville, where Rev. Thomas A. Ward, Pastor, will officiate. Interment with Military Honors from Charles J. Love Post American Legion, Harland J. Hennessey Post V.F.W. and Tun Tavern Marine Corps League, all of Boonville, will follow in St. Marys Cemetery, West Leyden. There are no calling hours. His funeral arrangements are in care of Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. Boonville.
