Clinton- Richard Francis Smith, 74, formerly of Evergreen Drive, Boonville and husband of Norma L. passed away on Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center, Utica.
Richard was born in Burke, NY (Franklin County), on July 12, 1948, a son of Earl and Esther Moore Smith. He graduated from Franklin Academy of Malone, with The Class of 1966, and from Clarkson College, Potsdam, with the Class of 1970, earning a Bachelor degree in accounting. From 1970, until his honorable discharge in 1972, Mr. Smith served his country in the U.S. Army in the Vietnam War.
On June 6, 1969, Dick married the love of his life, Norma L. Mallette, at St. Francis of Assai Church, Constable, NY.
Later the couple settled in Boonville, where for many years, Mr. Smith owned and operated AFT Services, in downtown Boonville, before becoming the branch manager of Fiducial Business Tax and Bookkeeping Services, also located in Boonville.
In addition to his wife, Norma, Dick is survived by two daughters, Meredith Smith-Converse (Scott) Brewerton, NY and Tara Bell (Mike), Richmond Hill, GA and four grandchildren, Taylor and Jack Converse and Lily and Haydn Bell.
In keeping with Dick’s wishes, his services will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to Central NY Veterans Outreach, 726 Washington St., Utica, NY 13502, or to the Stevens Swan Humane Society, 5664 Horatio St. Utica, NY 13502. His arrangements are in care of Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. Boonville.
