Delia R. Brooks

Lyons Falls- Delia Ruth (McDougall) Mooney Brooks, 91, widow of James Brooks, a former longtime resident of Town Line Road, Town of Greig and more recently a resident of The Terrace at Woodland, Rome, passed away on Friday, April 26, 2024, while under the loving care of her family and Hospice, at the Abraham House of Rome.


She was born on the McDougall homestead, in the Town of Lyonsdale, on July 26, 1932, a daughter of Raymond and Anna Sweeney McDougall. Delia grew up in the Town of Lyonsdale, where she lived for most of her life and attended Lyonsdale Rural School, before completing her education, at Lyons Falls Central School, later earning her GED.


Delia was employed for many years as a caregiver at the Weber Adult Home, Port Leyden, before thirteen years of employment as a developmental aid at New York State DDSO Home, Port Leyden, retiring in 1997.


On October 9, 1948, Delia was married to Stanley Mooney, at the Port Leyden Congregational Church. Mr. Mooney, who was employed as a truck driver and at Moyer & Pratt Paper Company, Lyonsdale passed away in 1974. On July 30, 1977, she was married to James W. Brooks, at the Bible Fellowship Church, Lyons Falls. Mr. Brooks, who was a landscaper passed away on June 6, 2003.


Mrs. Brooks was a member of the Bible Fellowship Church, Lyons Falls. She greatly enjoyed reading, and was an avid reader of the Reader’s Digest. She also enjoyed working on her puzzle books and going out for dinner.


Delia is survived by four sons and their wives; Randy and Jan Mooney, Lyndon and Cindy Mooney, Terry and Chris Mooney, all of Lyons Falls, and Jamie and Mary Brooks, Lee Center. She was predeceased by two daughters, Janice, as an infant and Debra Aubrey, who passed away in 2018. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and 15 great great grandchildren; four brothers; John and Wayne McDougall, both of Phoenix, NY, William and Raymond McDougall, both of Lyons Falls and two sisters, Ellie Fuller, Port Orange, FL and Betty Fox, Boonville and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by six brothers, Franklin, Terry, Leonard, Harold, Edward and Elwood McDougall.


Her Funeral will be on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at 12 Noon at the Bible Fellowship Church, Rt. 12, Lyons Falls, where Jeff Ford, Pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in Wildwood Cemetery, Lyons Falls. Calling hours are Tuesday, from 10:00 A.M. until the funeral, at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc. 4277 Middle Settlement Road, New Hartford, NY 13413, specifically for the Abraham Hospice Facility of Rome.


Following the cemetery services, all are invited to attend a luncheon at Bible Fellowship Church, where contributions of food may be taken on Tuesday, from 9:00 A.M. on. Her arrangements are in care of Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville.
