LOWVILLE, N.Y. - David W. Bower, 85, of Railroad Street, passed away on February 1, 2021. He was born in Oakfield, N.Y. to Fred and Belle Bower. He was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 51 years Mercedes; parents; sisters, Dorothy Zipfel and Ruth Brown; and brothers Robert, Donald and Paul Bower. He is survived by his second wife Agnes; sons, Paul, Anthony, Donald and Eric Bower; and daughters Barbara Bower and Marie Weber; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. David spent his early years battling polio. While this may have slowed him down it never overcame him. He retained his pleasant disposition and ever ready wit. This latter trait was used to entertain (and sometimes playfully torment) the children, 30 grandchildren and 45 great-grandchildren who so fondly remember him now. He never finished college, choosing instead to enter professional scouting where he was to meet Mercedes, then secretary for the International Bureau of Scouting in Havana Cuba. After deciding to leave scouting, he opened his own business, serving the plumbing and heating needs of the North Country. They settled down in the central NY Adirondack region and this is where they raised their family and lived until Mercedes passing in 2010. He married Agnes Quinn in 2011. They remained active in the church and were also active with the North County Patriots, believing strongly in the Constitution and the values and spiritual base this country was founded on. Determination and plain old-fashioned stubbornness were the only crutches he required. There were also two constants; a strong will and an equally strong won't served him well in life. To quote his mother "A Scout is - - my son, David". A service to celebrate his life will be conducted in May 2021 by his son-in-law Matthew Weber in a graveside committal in Port Leyden Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of your choice. We rejoice in the knowledge that as he closed his eyes for the final time here on earth he opened them to see the loving face of our Lord Jesus and the smiling faces of those who have gone before. Our goodbye is only a delay until we see each other again in Glory. Until then, goodbye for now Papi!
