Zephyrhills, FL – David R. Evans, 79, of Rosalita Ave., longtime resident of Port Leyden, passed away in the comfort of his home on Monday, October 3, 2022, under the loving care of his wife of 58 years Linda, and Gulfside Hospice.
David was born on August 26, 1943 in DeKalb Junction, NY, a son of George G. and Vivian Reed Evans. He grew up in Lyons Falls, NY, where he completed his education at Lyons Falls High School, graduating with the Class of 1962. David began work at Georgia Pacific, a paper mill in his hometown before employment with Law Brothers Contracting Corp. as a painter. For many years, David worked for various companies as a grade foreman in road construction including Barret Paving, Gallo Brothers, Penczek and Son, and Green Island. For 12 years, David was employed with the Development Authority of the North Country and retired as the Operations Supervisor at the Solid Waste Management Facility in Rodman.
David greatly enjoyed hunting, riding motorcycle, ATVing and spending time with his family. In July 1997, he and Linda took three weeks with a group of others and rode west on motorcycle taking in all the wonderful sites along the way. His favorite part of this trip was that he got the opportunity of doing this adventure with Linda. He was member of the Copper Creek hunting club for many years along with being a member of the Port Leyden Fire Department. He also participated in the Ride for Kids for a number of years each summer to raise money for Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation. He was very successful and proud in raising a total of $40,000 for this important cause.
On July 11, 1964, David was united in marriage with his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Linda E. Gydesen at the First Congregational Church of Port Leyden. The couple settled in Port Leyden before moving to their Beaver Falls home in 1985. Following their retirements in 2005, the couple began spending summers in Boonville and enjoying winters in Zephyrhills, FL.
Besides his wife Linda, he is survived by his sons Bradley (Bethany) Evans Boonville, and Matthew (Janet) Evans, Brantingham; grandchildren Taylor (Conner) Cavanaugh, Constableville, Todd Evans and his fiancé, Patricia Bailey, Boonville, Alyssa Evans and friend, Dawson Schneider, Beaver Falls, and Cameron Evans and friend Skye Everson, Brantingham; great-grandchildren Levi Maverick Cavanaugh and Piper Lee Evans and another expected in October 2022; sister, Nancy (Ronald) Graves, Rome; sisters-in-law, Pat Evans, Massena and Jane Kent, Portsmouth, Virginia; brothers-in-law, Jerry (Chris) Gydesen, Lyons Falls, David (Shelly) Gydesen, Brantingham and Joseph (Shelley) Gydesen, Port Leyden; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, mother and father-in-law, Irene and Velton Gydesen, brothers and sister in law, William (Sandra), Max, sister and brother-in-law, Mavis (Ronald) York, brother-in-law Donald Kent, and a beloved angel granddaughter, Adrianna Evans.
In keeping with David’s wishes, there will be no calling hours or services. Memorial contributions may be made to the Gulfside Healthcare Services, 2061 Collier Parkway, Land O’Lakes, FL 34639 or of your own choice in honor of David.
