David J. Howland

Forestport- David Joseph Howland 56, of Woodhull Road, husband of Corina, "Corky," passed away suddenly at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center, Utica, on Monday, February 22, 2016. He was born in Delhi, NY, on January 12, 1960, a son of Leroy Morley and Margaret Julia Norton Howland. David grew up in the Holland Patent, Stittville and Floyd areas, graduating from Holland Patent Central School, with the Class of 1978. While in high school he studied Auto Mechanics at BOCES. Thereafter he attended MVCC, where he earned a certificate in Drafting. Mr. Howland was gifted with a natural mechanical ability; for many years he was employed as an automobile mechanic at area auto dealerships, until retiring due to a disability. On November 28, 1992, David was united in marriage with Corina A. Broadbent, in Remsen. He was a member of Mt. Zion Church, Utica. Mr. Howland was a 25 year and current member of the Forestport Fire Fighters, Inc., where he served as a First Responder and currently was department Lieutenant. He greatly enjoyed the Fire Department Smoke House Fire Drill and Fire Safety Day for children and partaking in the fire department activities at the annual Forestport Day celebration held each August. David enjoyed hunting and fishing on the Forestport Pond, motor cycle riding with his wife, Corky, attending boat shows, and repairing antique boat motors; Mr. Howland was the quintessential tinkerer. Most of all, David loved his wife Corky, and his four children; Sierra Dawn Howland, at home, Kaylee Marie Howland and her fiance, Aaron Michael Hellinger, Whitesboro, Joshua David Howland, Raleigh, NC, and Abigail Rose Howland, at home; one sister, Barbara Galvin, Wilmington, NC; three brothers, Robert (Kelly) Howland, TN, his twin brother, Daniel (Claire) Howland, GA, and Timothy (Martha) Howland, Utica, and many nieces and nephews. His Funeral Service will be Friday at 10:00 A.M. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, with a spring interment in Beechwood Cemetery, Forestport. Calling hours are Thursday from 4-9 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Forestport Fire Fighters, Inc. 11965 River Road, Forestport, NY 13338.
