David H. Taylor

Constableville- David H. Taylor, 77, of James St., husband of Elaine (Norton) Taylor, passed away on Sunday, January 20, 2013, at Sunset Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Boonville, where he had resided since Jan. 3, 2013. He was born in Lowville, on October 4, 1935, a son of Henry and Helen Schwenk Taylor. He grew up in Constableville, graduating from high school, with the Class of 1953. Thereafter, David attended Ithaca College for two years before volunteering to serve his country in the U.S. Navy, from December, 1955, until his honorable discharge in 1957. At that time he returned to Constableville; in 1958, he began his 20 years of employment as a life insurance salesman for Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. of Watertown, covering the Constableville, Port Leyden and Lyons Falls areas. During the time he was employed for Metropolitan, he and his wife, Elaine, lived on Cascade Ave. in Lowville. On November 5, 1960, David was united in marriage with Elaine F. Norton, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Constableville. In 1979, he purchased the Western Auto Hardware Store in Port Leyden, operating this store until 1998. In 1994, the couple moved to their present home in Constableville. Mr. Taylor was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Constableville, the Elks Club of Lowville; he was an avid golfer and enjoyed hunting. David is survived by his wife of 52 years, and daughter Jan, a brother, Dan, Syracuse; several brothers in law and sisters in law and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Joan; his mother and father in law, Harold and Helen Norton, and a brother in law, Mark Norton. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 4, at 3:00 pm at St. Paul's Church, Constableville with interment to follow in Rural Cemetery, Constableville. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Constableville Hall, St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Constableville, or to the Constableville Fire and Ambulance Department, Constableville, NY 13325. His arrangements are in care of Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville.
