Holland Patent - David E. Hughes, a longtime resident of Steuben St, and more recently of Clinton, passed away on Wednesday, May 25, 2016. He was born in Utica, on December 13, 1928, a son of Edward and Nellie Hughes Hughes. David grew up in Utica, where he graduated from Utica Free Academy with the Class of 1946. From 1948, until his honorable discharge in 1951, Mr. Hughes served his country, during the Korean Conflict Era, in the U.S. Marine Corps Military Police, stationed in California. On April 28, 1951, David was united in marriage with Mary Alice Hughes, at Holland Patent Presbyterian Church, where Rev. Hasbrook officiated. Thereafter the couple settled on Steuben St., where they lived until moving to Clinton, in January, 2016. For many years, Dave was employed as a bus mechanic at Holland Patent School District, retiring in 1991. He served as Treasurer of the Village of Holland Patent for 25 years. He also served as Treasurer of the Wednesday Night Golf League for 30+ years and Secretary/Treasurer of the Tuesday Night Bowling League for over 25 years. Mr. Hughes was a long time member of The First Presbyterian Church of Holland Patent, and a 60 year member of Roberts Post American Legion, Holland Patent. Dave is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mary Alice; sons, Dale (Diane) Hughes, Mark (Barbara) Hughes, and daughter Jennifer (Michael) Dorsino; 7 grandchildren, Christopher, Craig, Colby (Melissa), Morgann (Bob), Dylan, Dustin and Connor; three Great-Grandchildren, Lyndsay, Bobby and Mallory. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews, who were as close as children and grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, brother William and sister Kathryn. Services will be on Wednesday, June 1, 2016, at 11:00 A.M. at The First Presbyterian Church of Holland Patent, where Rev. Susan Solomon, pastor will officiate.
