Cynthia A. Cassell

June 12, 1941 — July 18, 2013

Gloversville- Cynthia Ann (Beagle) Cassell, 72, widow of John A. passed away on Thursday, July 18, 2013, at Nathan Littauer Hospital, Gloversville. She was born in Bennington, VT, on June 12, 1941, a daughter of George H. and Winifred M. Brunette Beagle. Cynthia moved to Lyons Falls, as a child, where she attended school, later graduating from General Martin High School of Glenfield, with the Class of 1960. After that she attended Jefferson County Community College of Watertown, where she met her future husband, John, whom she married on June 15, 1974, at St. Mary's Church, Constableville. In 1985 the couple moved from the Potato Hill Road, near Boonville, to Gloversville. Mr. Cassell, an accountant, who was employed as an account examiner for NYS Department of Labor, died on July 12, 1991. On June 5, 1961, Cynthia began her long career, at the time with General Telephone Company. She began as a student operator in Boonville; after that she was employed as a Business Office Clerk in Lowville and in Boonville, and as a telephone operator in the Boonville District office. In October, 1984, she transferred to the Johnstown office at what was then Continental Telephone Co. of Upstate, NY. At that time, she and her husband were residents of Boonville, and for the following year, Mrs. Cassell commuted daily from Boonville to her work in Johnstown. While employed in Johnstown, she was in the Operator Services Department, the Service Bureau Clerk and a Service Clerk. During her long career with the telephone company, Mrs. Cassell was employed for the following companies: Continental Telephone of Upstate NY; later Continental Telephone of NY, Contel of NY, GTE, Citizens, before retiring from Frontier Communications on June 1, 2008. Cynthia was a God fearing woman of a pure heart who was devoted to the Lord. She cared and nurtured others even while she was fighting her own health concerns; one never to complain, she would bear her pain, with uncanny strength and will of her character. Always cracking a joke with her caregivers, her beautiful laugh will echo through Heaven now. She was always a gracious host, and she was proud of her Irish Heritage. Having survived breast and ovarian cancer, Cindy was a loyal supporter of American Cancer Society Relay for Life. Cynthia was a strongly patriotic person who never missed voting in a Presidential Election. Mrs. Cassell was of the Catholic Faith; she served as a Girl Scout Leader and greatly enjoyed raising flowers, gardening and nature. She found great joy in decorating for each holiday and observing all the holidays in a year, including dressing up for Halloween. Cynthia is survived by one son, Shawn Patrick Cassell, Gloversville; three brothers and sisters in law, James J. (Jean) Beagle, Monson, MA, Joseph G. (Charlotte) Beagle, Lowville, Stephen B. (Cheryl) Beagle, Delmar; two sisters, Michelle B. Beagle, and Jacquelyn M. Beagle, both of Turin. She was predeceased by a sister, Susan E. Kapfer, on May 18, 1997. Her Funeral will be Tuesday at 9:15 AM at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, and at 10:00 A.M. at St. Mary's Church, Constableville, where Rev. Lawrence Marullo, pastor, will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Boonville, where she will be laid to rest by her beloved husband, John.
