Prospect - Clinton S. Benedict, Jr., 79, of Trenton Falls Street passed away on Monday, March 9, 2009 at Sunset Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, where he had resided since March 2, 2009. since 2005, a retired teacher at Adirondack Central School, Boonville, and the current pastor at Prospect United Methodist Church A native of Katonah (Westchester County), he was born on November 20, 1929 to Clinton S. and Lois A. Trimble Benedict, Sr. He graduated from high school in 1947 and attended Springfield College for two years. Mr. Benedict served in the U. S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict from 1950 until his honorable discharge in 1954. Following his military service, he enrolled at Hartwick College in Oneonta, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree. On November 8, 1953, Clinton was united in marriage with Peggy J. McCustion in Potlatch, ID. She died in 2004. From 1957 until 1973, Mr. Benedict was employed by General Electric as an electronic salesman, traveling throughout the country before finishing his career in Utica. He then taught science and mathematics at Adirondack Senior High School in Boonville until retiring in 1984. From 1988 until 2004 they lived in Lewiston, ID. For ten years during their stay in Lewiston, Mr. Benedict served as pastor of the Lapwai Methodist Church. Mrs. Benedict passed away in 2004. Mr. Benedict moved to Trenton Falls Street, Prospect in 2005, and was currently the pastor at Prospect United Methodist Church. He greatly enjoyed watching his grandchildren play basketball, and was an avid fan of Syracuse University Orange basketball. Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Barbara Grenicko of Boise, ID, and Kathryn Benedict and her husband, Christopher, of Urbanna, IL; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Steven of Flagstaff, AZ, Bill and his wife, Susan, of Yuba City, CA, and James and his wife, Christine, of Prospect; eight grandchildren, Shannon, Jessica and Christopher Grenicko of Boise, Ethan and Ellise Benedict of Yuba City, and Courtney, Andrew and Michael Benedict of Prospect; five great-grandchildren; and many special friends. In addition to his wife, Mr. Benedict was predeceased by a grandson, Stevie Grenicko, in 2005. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial visitation on Friday from 4-7 p.m. at the Prospect United Methodist Church, where a celebration of his life will follow at 7 p.m. Contributions in his memory may be made to Prospect United Methodist Church.
