Clinton C. Capron

Boonville- Clinton Clark Capron, 91, lifelong resident of Boonville, husband of Betty, passed away peacefully, with his family by his side on September 16, 2015 at Sunset Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Boonville. Clinton, affectionately known as Clint, was born on February 7, 1924 a son of Erlo Barnes and Susie Clark Capron. Clint was a graduate of Boonville High School with the Class of 1941. On December 11, 1942, Clint enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps, where he completed training and then served as a pilot and crew commander of a B-24 Liberator. He was honorably discharged on November 29, 1945 as a Second Lieutenant. Clint continued his service in the reserves, retiring as a Major. Clint began work as an insurance agent with the Prudential Insurance Co. in December of 1945, and in 1958 was promoted to manager of the Boonville Office until his retirement in 1983. Through Prudential Clint qualified for and attended many leadership conferences. On June 12, 1948 Clinton was united in marriage with Elizabeth "Betty" Davis at the Boonville United Methodist Church, where he was a member, serving as trustee, chairman of the board, and usher. Clint was a very active member of local and regional civic organizations. He was a 70 year member of the Boonville Uriel Masonic Lodge #165, where he served as Master and was appointed Grand Steward of the Grand Lodge of New York State. Clint was also a member of the Salma chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, Boonville, where he served as Patron for many years, and in 1990 was appointed the Grand Sentinel of the Order of NYS. Clint also served as president of Boonville Kiwanis, was a past trustee of the Village of Boonville, served on the board of directors of Kortenaer Village, and was a member of the Mohawk Valley Bottle Club. Clint was also an active member of ACAL. He was a longtime member of the Charles J. Love Post #406 American Legion, Boonville, where he was past commander and member of the Color Guard. Clint enjoyed his membership in the Boonville Ham Radio Club. A favorite pastime of Clint's was the time he spent outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. Following Clint's retirement, he and his family enjoyed the camp he built on the Black River. This was one of Clint's favorite places to hunt. Clint was a member of the Atwell Fish & Game Club. Together with his family, many camping trips were also made to the St. Lawrence River. Clint was also a member for many years of the Boonville Fire Co., where he drove the ambulance and was an EMT. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Betty, his son Edward (Debrah) Capron, daughter Anne (John) McLaughlin, daughter Joan (Mark) VerSchneider, all of Boonville; his grandchildren: Jennifer and Jason Capron, Julia (John) Reade, Travis (Heather), Michael, and Patrick McLaughlin; great-grandson Emrie, his sister Eleanor Zeigler, two sisters-in-law: Jean Capron and Marleen Capron, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his brothers Harry and Norman Capron and sister Bernice Hayes. Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 21, at 10:30 am at the Boonville United Methodist Church, 202 Main St. Boonville, where Pastor Dan Richter and Pastor Denise Bowen will co-officiate. Interment with military honors will follow in Boonville Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville. Memorial contributions may be made to the Boonville United Methodist Church, 202 Main Street, Boonville, the Erwin Library and Institute 104 Schuyler St. Boonville, or the Sunset Nursing Home Activities Fund, 232 Academy Street, Boonville, NY 13309.
