~~Constableville- Chester J. Kirk, 76, of Bailey Road, formerly of River Road, Westernville and State Rt. 294, Boonville and husband of the late Cathleen, passed away on Tuesday, December 5, 2017, at Rome Memorial Hospital, while surrounded by the loving care of his family. He was born in Rome, on June 9, 1941, a son of Edwin J. and Gertrude Mae Lawton Kirk and he grew up on the Kirk homestead farm on Mohawk Hill. He attended Mohawk Hill Rural School, later completing his education at Constableville High School. Mr. Kirk was first employed at Revere Copper & Brass Co. Rome, before employment as a wire spooler at Camden Wire Co. Later for several years he was employed as a truck and heavy equipment operator, at D.A. Schallenberg Construction Co. Westernville; his last employment was on the Lyndon Marcy Farm, near Boonville, retiring in 1989, due to illness. Chester married Cathleen M. Letson, on November 26, 1960, at St. Marys Church, Constableville. After their marriage with couple lived on Mohawk Hill, later living in Westernville and Boonville for many years; for the past ten years, Chester had made his home with his daughter, Wendy, near Constableville. Mrs. Kirk passed away on January 8, 2003. Mr. Kirk was a former member of St. Josephs Church, Lee Center; in later years he attended St. Marys Church, Constableville. He is survived by two sons, Jody A. Kirk, Sr., Minoa, Dwayne E. Kirk, Utica; three daughters, Heidi (Francis) Rocker, Jr. Castorland, Wendy Baslow, Constableville and Sally (Scott) Williams, Ava; many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was predeceased by two daughters, Laura A. and Julie M., who died as infants. Also surviving are three brothers, Henry Kirk, Lockport, Allen Kirk, Constableville, and Ronald Kirk, Boonville; two sisters, Mary Jane (LaVerne) Ayers, Constableville and Juanita (Ira) Yousey, Croghan. He was predeceased by brothers, Gerald, 1967 and Arnold, in 2016 and by a sister, Shirley Durgan, in 1969. His Funeral will be Saturday at 10:30 A.M. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, and at 11:30 A.M. at St. Marys Church, Constableville, where Rev. Lawrence Marullo, will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be in Carmichael Hill Cemetery, Town of Western. Calling hours are Friday 4-7 P.M. at the funeral home.
