West Leyden- Charles S. Tanner, 66, of Freeman Road and husband of Kim, passed away while surrounded by his loving wife and family, on Saturday, November 11, 2023, at Albany Medical Center. Albany, NY.
Affectionately known as Chuck, he was born in Rome, NY, on September 27, 1957, a son of Malcolm W. and Marlene Joanis Tanner. He grew up in the hamlet of West Leyden, where he attended school, before completing his education at Adirondack High School, Boonville and later furthering his education, earning his GED. On December 3, 1976, Charles was united in marriage with Kim A. Kerber, in the Town of Ava. After their marriage the couple lived in Stokes Corners, Town of Lee, for several years, before moving to their present home, near West Leyden, many years ago.
Mr., Tanner was employed for many years as a mobile home mover and setter, for Lee Mobile Homes, before founding his own mobile home moving and setting business known as C. Tanner Transport Co. of West Leyden. During his time as owner of his transport company, he and his family moved and set mobile homes over a wide area of the northeastern United States. Chuck was also a person who was gifted as a stone mason; for several years he owned Charles S. Tanner Stone Mason Co. of West Leyden and he constructed many fireplaces, chimneys and also created stone mason landscaping at homes and camps thorough the Adirondack Mountain region of New York state.
He was an avid hunter and lifetime member of the Smoker’s hunting club and also Broad Brook hunting club. and he also enjoyed snowmobiling and riding 4 wheelers. He enjoyed the hobby of honey bee keeping and he was a gifted mechanic who enjoyed repairing automobiles for his many friends.
In addition to his wife, Kim, Chuck is survived by his mother, Marlene Tanner, West Leyden; one daughter and son in law, Anessa and Keith Platt, Hawkinsville; son and daughter in law, Benjamin and Darci, Tanner, Raleigh, NC; grandchildren, Alex Platt and his girlfriend, Jade, Kaitlyn Carbaugh and Adam Tanner and an extra granddaughter, Sarah Dorhn; great grandchildren, Owen, Addalyne, Ryder and Zachary; his siblings, Deborah and Alton Rocker, Texas, Scott and Deborah Tanner, West Leyden, Laurie Secor, Boonville, Sharon and Joe Cullings, West Leyden, Brian and Stacey Tanner, West Leyden, Tracey Tanner, Rome, Jason Tanner, Utica, a step sister, Pam and Steve Kinstle, Floyd, and his favorite sister-in-law Rhonda Kerber. He was predeceased by his father, Malcolm in 2018, his step mother, Shirley Tanner, in 2022, a grandson, Kyle Z. Platt, in 2019; brothers, Danny, in 2021, Michael, 2013 and Steven, in 1975.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a graveside service on Thursday, November 16, 2023, at 1:00 P.M. at Ava Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Following his services, everyone is invited to attend a luncheon at the Milk Plant Tavern, Rt. 26, West Leyden, NY, where food contributions may be dropped off from 12 Noon on, on Thursday. His arrangements are in care of Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. Boonville, NY.
