~~Boonville- Charles Leonard Lenny DeVoe, 83, of Walker Road, passed away on Thursday, November 16, 2017 at Sunset Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, while surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 2, 1934 in Boonville, a son of Charles Stanley and Ruth Wormuth DeVoe. He was predeceased by his older brother Douglas Arthur DeVoe, who passed away in a boating accident in 1949, a close friend Douglas Croneiser also lost his life at the same time. Both brothers lived on the family farm with their parents located on route 12-D at Locust Grove. C. Stanley their father passed away in February 1956. Ruth W. DeVoe passed away in 1982. Charles operated the farm with his father until his death and then continued with his mother until 1957 when he married his wife Netina A. McIntyre. The couple had 5 children: Douglas A. DeVoe, who passed away on October 10, 2017, Christine A. (Tom) Robinson of Rodman, Kim A. Strife, Boonville, Stanley Charles, West Leyden, Scott B. DeVoe and Krista, Watson, 10 Grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Charles is also survived by Ron Strife and Roger Myers, who were both like sons to him. Mr. DeVoe and his wife operated Clear View farm until 1980 when the couple separated and sold the farm. Charles went on to the North American School of Conservation, graduated and worked in that capacity for 3 years. He was also employed with Georgia Pacific from 1964-1970. He drove school bus for Adirondack Central School for a time. A very close and dear friend, Yvette Oneal who went to school with Charles contacted him about a very good job opening for a heavy equipment operator and engineer for a large tree nursery located in Yardley, PA. He applied and was hired going on to be field foreman in charge of many men and women that were employed there. For 18 years the company was the largest of its kind in Pennsylvania, known as the Moon Ricker Nursery and Landscape Co. Mr. DeVoe was involved in the building of 7 golf courses in New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Delaware and Maryland. The owner of the company sent Mr. DeVoe to landscape school because of his abilities and designing skills. Charles graduated as a landscape architect and designer and earned endorsements from the Pennsylvania Nursery Association. Mr. DeVoe was also well known for his involvement and as an advisor for the Elvis Presley Memorial Park in Tennessee. Mr. Devoe was forced into retirement in August 1988 because of health issues. After recovery he was hired for Bucks County Well Drilling and Pump Co. He went on to teach new employees. Mr. DeVoe reached many goals through the years as he was a licensed plumber, electrician, Well Driller, Pump Technician, Conservation Ranger, and Landscape Architect, and was also a security officer for ACME markets in his spare time for 15 years. A fatal auto accident took the life of his dear friend and companion Yvette Oneal on August 24, 2000. Then his step-daughter Tammy Oneal passed away 3 months later, aged 35 years, leaving behind her husband and 5 boys. Mr. DeVoe donated much to the communities he lived in by helping the needy and was a big brother to many of the unfortunate kids, by coaching little league. When time permitted, he would also mow lawns for those interested. Mr. DeVoe was severely injured in that accident but had to retire permanently in 2004. He will be missed by his family and friends. In keeping with his wishes all services will be held privately. Arrangements are in care of the Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville.
