Boonville- Charles J. McConnell, 79, of Lansing Place, affectionatley known as Charlie, husband of Maxine, passed away on Monday, March 16, 2015, at Rome Memorial Hospital, after a short illness. For many years he had resided on Upper Schuyler St. Boonville. He was born in Boonville, on March 30, 1935, a son of Ira E. and Patricia Nolan McConnell and grew up at the Fish Creek Sportmens Club, where his parents were caretakers for the club. Later his family moved to a farm on the West Road, near Constableville. He graduated from Constableville High School with the Class of 1954. While in high school Charlie particpated on the basketball team and was a member of the marching band. In 1954, he entered the US Army, serving his country during the Korean Conflict, while stationed in Germany on the Hungarian Border Patrol. He was honorably discharged from the Army on 1957. After serving his country, Charlie settled in Boonville, where he was first employed as a deliveryman for Mercer's Dairy. Later he furthered his education by attending Schenectady School of Welding, where he earned a certified welding degree. After that he was employed for twenty years at Pettibone Corp. of Rome, as a welder in steel crane construction. During that time, he was also employed as a school bus driver at Adirondack Central School District, Boonville. His last employment was as a millwright at Lyons Falls Pulp and Paper Co. Mr. McConnell was a member of St. Joseph's Church, Boonville; a member of Charles J. Love Post American Legion # 406, where he had served as Commander and Sergeant of Arms, member of Harland J. Hennessey Post VFW, both Boonville, and a retired member of Boonville Fire Company, where he served as Assistant Chief. Charlie greatly enjoyed hunting and the out doors and spending time at the family hunting camp in Highmarket. After he retired, for many years he enjoyed spening time camping and working at Cold Brook Campsites in Port Leyden. On January 5, 1957, Charlie married Shirley Roberts, at St. Joseph's Church, Boonville. She died on January 1, 1986. On July 5, 2003, he was united in marriage with Maxine E. Ossont LaQuay, at St. Mary's Church, Constableville. In addition to his wife, Maxine, he is survived by his children, Steven J. (Debbie) McConnell, Boonville, Cynthia L. (Peter) Ferris, Old Forge, Kenneth C. McConnell, Boonville, Keith C. (Jill) McConnell, Boonville, Patrick J. McConnell, Jensen Beach, FL; grandchildren, Ryan (Yrma) McConnell, Jennifer A. McConnell, Nicole (Neil) Levensailor, Cory (Shayna) McConnell, Hannah M. McConnell, Brian C. McConnell, Shane S. McConnell, Cali McConnell; two great grandchildren, Kylie McConnell, and Bentley Levensailor; two step daughters, Michelle (Rich) Josephs, Oriskany, Jamie Palczynski, Rome; two step grandchildren, Bryson Josephs, and Aryana Josephs, nieces and nephews, and by his canine companion Sarah. He was predeceased by sisters, Mary Pat Thomas, and Elizabeth "Betty" Staple. His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 11:00 A.M. at St. Joseph's Church, Charles St. Boonville, with interment in the spring in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Boonville.
