Charles F. Carpenter

July 19, 1950 — July 11, 2023

Charles F. “Bud” Carpenter (72) passed away on July 11, 2023 at his home in Barneveld, NY. Born July 19, 1950 he attended Pemberton Township H.S. in Ft. Dix, NJ and earned his BA from Rutgers University in English and education in 1972. He was the founder of Laser Probe, Inc. based in Utica, NY, and served as its President and CEO for 30 years. Bud loved his work and spent many hours refining and developing new products for clients around the world.

Although his occupation took him in a new direction, Bud never lost his love of teaching. A lifelong learner, he believed in the power of knowledge. He wore many different hats throughout his life; son, brother, uncle, father figure to some, teacher, engineer, inventor, mentor, boss and friend. As a constant mentor, he would teach family and friends from topics spanning computers, video games and even cooking. He was always fond of the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), and encouraged others to explore interests in everything from math to space exploration. Everyone who knew him would agree, he was beyond generous.

Bud is survived by his sisters Denise L. Carpenter and Elane R. Castellano as well nieces Shannon L. Castellano and Tarren L. Roman; nephews Jeffrey K. Williams, Jason C. Williams and Marcelo A. Palacios; and six grand-nieces. Bud was preceded in death by his parents Charles E. Carpenter and Hazel P. Carpenter (née Dulany) and his sister Karen P. Williams (née Carpenter).

Memorial services for family and friends will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to his favorite charity the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (https://afsp.org/) in his memory. His family wishes to express their gratitude to co-workers, associates, and friends who have supported us during this time. He will be forever missed, loved, and never forgotten. His legacy, life, and stories will live on with those who knew him.
