Charles Edwin Divens

Air Force Chief Master Sergeant, Retired, Charles Edwin Divens, 68, of Boonville, passed away Sunday, September 24, 2006, at Sunset Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Boonville. He was born in Toby Township, Clarion County, PA, on October 31, 1937, the son of the late Charles Vogle and Marcella Lazzarine Divins. Upon graduation from Union Joint High School in Rimersburg, Clarion Co., PA, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. He served 25 years in England, France, Germany, the Phillipines, Korea and various bases in the United States retiring at Griffiss Air Force Base, Rome, as an Air Traffic Control Superintendant. He again served his country with 12 years of Civil service as Airspace Manager of the Northeast Air Defense Sector. Mr. Divens is survived by his beloved wife, Thelma A. England, and two children, a daughter Debbie Sue and husband Eric Pritchard, grandson Denver Divens and step-granddaughters Susanne, Eve, Valerie, Audrey, and Hollie Snyder, all of Lee Center; a son Scott Charles and his wife Peggy with grandson Benjamin Charles and granddaughter Abbey Rose, all of Rochester; sisters Mary Irene (Rene) and husband Col. (USAF Ret.) Thomas H. Saunders, Sr. of Sumter, SC, and Betty Joan Harland of Woodbridge, VA; and uncle World War II Marine Sergeant Harry Howard Divins of Templeton, PA; and several nieces and nephews. He loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman, hunter and gardener. But his family and his "black dog" "Trixie" were the loves of his life. Charlie, as he was known in the community, was very interested in working with young people and was instrumental in forming the Adirondack Booster Club. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Booster Club at Adirondack High School, P.O. Box 703, Boonville, NY 13309. Visitation for family and friends will be from 4 to 7 pm Wednesday, September 27, 2006, at the Trainor Funeral Home, Inc., 143 Schuyler St., Boonville. A Memorial Service with full military honors will follow at 7:00 pm.
