Oneida - Catherine F. (Sampson) Lee, 92, a former longtime resident of Main Street, Port Leyden, passed away on Thursday, November 11, 2010 at Betsy Ross Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Rome. Prior to entering the nursing facility in 2009, Mrs. Lee had resided with her daughter, Shirley Hirschey of Oneida for six years. She was born in Boonville on January 21, 1918, a daughter of Edward Sampson. Catherine grew up in Port Leyden and attended local schools. For many years she was employed as a textile folder and inspector at the former Lally Mfg. Co., Port Leyden. On October 27, 1946, Catherine was united in marriage with Lawrence J. Lee at St. Martin's Church, Port Leyden. During the 1950's the couple moved to Main Street. Mr. Lee, a retiree of De Lia Construction Co., died on May 30, 1982. Mrs. Lee was a member of St. Martin's Church, Port Leyden, and she greatly enjoyed knitting. She is survived by a son, Harry J. Greensboro of NC; a daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Randall Hirschey of Oneida; four grandchildren, Renee Sapp, and Erika, Derek and Kristen Hirschey; and two great-grandchildren, Mitchell and Matthew. The last of her family, Catherine was predeceased by two brothers, Charles and Clifford. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a graveside committal service on Monday at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Cemetery, Port Leyden, where Rev. Stephen Gratto, pastor of St. Martin's Church, Port Leyden, will officiate. There are no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to the Port Leyden Library. Her arrangements are entrusted to Trainor Funeral Home, Inc., 143 Schuyler Street, Boonville.
