West Branch - Carolyn H. Ruth, 88, wife of James, longtime resident of West Branch, passed away on Wednesday December 2, 2020 at Rome Memorial Hospital. Carolyn was born on July 14, 1932 in Rome, a daughter of Charles and Margaret Markham Hicks. She grew up in North Western, and was a graduate of Holland Patent High School, with the Class of 1950. Carolyn then attended the Utica School of Commerce where she received secretarial and clerical education. For a time she was employed with Sears Oil Co., and also Rome Cable Co. as a secretary. Carolyn then went to work at Camden Wire Co., where she was employed for several years in production, retiring in 1987. On October 15, 1955, Carolyn was united in marriage with James Ruth at the home of her great-uncle Rev. C.I. Armstrong. The couple settled on the farm they purchased to be their first home in West Branch, where they raised their family and have since lived. Carolyn had a passion for traveling, and many winters were enjoyed together in Lake Wales, Florida. Besides her husband James, Carolyn is survived by her children: Brian (Tracy) Ruth, Ava, Brenda Carpenter, Spokane, Washington, and Dennis (Kimberly) Ruth, West Branch; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers Charles and William Hicks, and an infant brother Thomas. In keeping with Carolyn's wishes all services will be held privately. Burial in the spring will take place in Ava Cemetery. Arrangements are in care of the Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross - Utica Chapter, 1415 Genesee St. Utica, NY 13501.
