Carolyn D. Setter

New Hartford - Carolyn D. Setter, 87, widow of Fred, passed away following a brief illness, on June 6, 2016, at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare, while surrounded by her family. Carolyn was born on June 26, 1928 a daughter of John and Caroline Hinkelman Dodge. She grew up in Syracuse where she was educated, graduating from Central High School of Syracuse. On September 2, 1946 she was united in marriage with Frederick W. Setter in Albany. In 1950 the couple moved to Whitford Ave., Whitesboro. From 1967 until her retirement in 1986, Mrs. Setter was the owner and operator of Vantines Hallmark Card & Gift Shop in the Whitesboro Plaza. In 1983 the couple purchased a home on Kayuta Lake, where they spent summers, and in the winter months lived in New Port Richey, Florida. Mr. Setter, a WWII Navy veteran and retired quality control manager at General Electric, Utica, passed away on July 27, 2003. Carol was very active in many civic and religious organizations including the Lioness Club of New Hartford, the Adirondack Forever Wild Garden Club, Associate member of the Community Methodist Church of Holiday, FL., where she served on the evangelism committee, former President of W.H.O. Club, member of H.H.H. "His Helping Hands", a group that visits shut-ins, member of the Boonville United Methodist Church. Currently she was attending the New Hartford Methodist Church. Carol is survived by one son and daughter-in-law: Frederick W. Setter, Jr. and Sylvia, Oriskany; two daughters and sons-in-law: Susan and Joe Nassif, Deerfield, and Patricia Setter, CA; three grandchildren Kristen (John) Pangia, Erik (Barbara) Nassif, and Jenna (Paul) Bruzzese; five great-grandchildren; William Pangia, Elizabeth Pangia, Nicholas Nassif, Dean Nassif, Ryan Nassif, and several nieces and nephews and two close friends; Gail Heitz and George Harris. In addition to her husband, Frederick, she was predeceased by brothers, Ken, John, Robert and Richard Dodge; and by one sister, Dorothy Burke. A Memorial Service will be Thursday, June 9, 2016, at 11:00 A.M. at New Hartford United Methodist Church, Genesee St, New Hartford, where a visitation will be from 10 A.M. until the service. Private interment will be in White Chapel Memory Garden, Dewitt. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc. 4277 Middle Settlement Road, New Hartford, NY 13413. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville.
