Carol A. Countryman

Rome – Carol A. Countryman, 86, widow of William G. Countryman, passed away on Sunday, September 29, 2024 at Sunset Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Boonville.


Carol was born on June 28, 1938 in Syracuse, New York, the daughter of Julian and Eva Sollitt Weeks. She grew up in Syracuse where she received her education. For a time, Carol was employed at Marine Midland Bank in Dewitt, where she met her future husband William G. Countryman.


The couple wed on March 28, 1980, settling in Rome, NY, and enjoyed a loving union of 44 years until William’s passing on August 5, 2024. Carol found great joy in her role as wife, mother and homemaker. In later years her role as a loving grandmother to grandsons Stephen and Jonathon brought much excitement and left them with many cherished memories. She was a member of St. Peter’s Church, Rome, and as she was very devoted to her Christian faith, she found comfort in daily prayers and meditations.


She is survived by her son George Rao, Florida, daughter Laurie (Robert) Schwitter, Canastota, daughter Gina Reinhardt and partner Jay Lee, Prospect, and grandsons Stephen Malecki, Westmoreland and Jonathon Reinhardt, Barneveld.


A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 8, 2024 at 11:00 am at St. Peter’s Church, Rome, with Rev. Sean P; O’Brien, pastor officiating. Interment will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery, Rome. There are no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of CNY, 441 West Kirkpatrick St., Syracuse, New York 13204 or to the St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box #1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38101.


Carol’s family would like to extend a note of heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Sunset Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Boonville for the wonderful and loving care given to Carol during her stay.
