Rome- C. James Jenks, 86, of South James St., formerly of Sylvan Beach, husband of Marguerite, passed away on Monday, April 22, 2013, at Rome Memorial Hospital. He was born in Boonville, on April 28, 1926, a son of Raymond F. and Ruth E. Hines Jenks and grew up on the Lewis Road near Boonville, graduating from Boonville High School, with the Class of 1944. On October 19, 1944, Mr. Jenks entered the US Army and served his country in the Headquarters Company of the United States Field Artillery in the European Theater of WWII. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant on October 27, 1946. After the war he returned to Boonville and was employed as a truck driver for Jackson Furniture Co. of Boonville. On June 25, 1947, James was united in marriage with Marguerite Anna in Boonville. After that the couple lived in Stokes and in Floyd for many years. For thirty years he was employed at Revere Copper & Brass Co. of Rome, retiring as foreman of the rolling mill. After his retirement the couple constructed a log cabin home on Cove Road in Sylvan Beach. For several years while residing in Sylvan Beach, Mr. Jenks was employed during the summer for the Oneida Co. Sheriff's Department as a Boat Patrolman Officer on Oneida Lake out of Sylvan Beach. Mrs. Jenks, a clothing department clerk at Montgomery Ward Department Store of Rome, died on March 12, 1998. Mr. Jenks had attended St. Joseph's Church, Lee Center, St. Leo's Church, Holland Patent, St. Mary's Church, Sylvan Beach and was presently attending St. John the Baptist Church, Rome. He was a member of the Sylvan Beach American Legion and the South Rome Senior Citizens. James is survived by one son and daughter in law, Dennis J. (Lynn) Jenks, Colorado Springs, CO; and one daughter and son in law, Donna (David) Calandra, Holland Patent. He was predeceased by a son David E. Jenks, on May 15, 1999. Also surviving are ten grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; one sister, Jane (Jack) Swancott; one brother, Harry (June) Jenks, all of Boonville. He was predeceased by a brother, Robert, in 2012. His Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday at 10:00 A.M. at St. Joseph's Church, Boonville, where Rev. Sean Patrick O'Brien, pastor will officiate. Interment with military honors rendered by Charles J. Love Post American Legion, Harland J. Hennessey Post VFW and Tun Tavern Marine Corps League will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Boonville.
