Constableville - Billy Gene Oaks, 75, of Crofoot Hill Road, husband of Edith, passed away on Tuesday, September 23, 2008, at his residence while under the care of his loving family and Lewis County Hospice. A native of Burney, Indiana, he was born on October 3, 1932, a son of George William and Leah Leota Galbraith Oaks. He grew up near Indianapolis where he graduated from Broad High School. During the Korean Conflict, Mr. Oaks served in the U.S. Coast Guard, stationed in New York City and on the Atlantic seaboard. On May 8, 1954, Mr. Oaks was united in marriage with Edith Anna Shute in Brooklyn. Mr. Oaks graduated from the University of Florida at Gainsville, with a Bachelor of Science Degree, and later from George Washington University where he earned two Masters Degrees. He later attended a military college also in Washington, D.C. Mr. Oaks was appointed to the Senior Executive Service in Washington, D.C. His last employment was in Technology Transfer for the Department of Defense at Rome Lab, retiring in 1994. The couple moved to their present home near Constableville in 1999. Mr. Oaks was a member of Boonville Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. In addition to his wife, Edith, he is survived by five grandchildren, Rhys Oaks, Craig Oaks, Bryon Oaks, Emily Oaks, and Rose Oaks; and two step-grandchildren, Joshua Wengert and Denise Wengert. A Memorial service will be held on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. at the Boonville Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, located at the corner of Woodgate and Evergreen Drives. There are no calling hours. His arrangements are in the care of Trainor Funeral Home, Inc., 143 Schulyer Street, Boonville, NY.
