WILLIAM J. COVEY
PENNYSETTLEMENT
William J. Covey, (Bill), 91 passed away peacefully at his home, residing on Brownville Road, Port Leyden, on Friday, September 9, 2022, while living with Deborah and Thomas Morley as caregivers, with the aid of William and Elizabeth Morley, Rosemary Healt and for the past month, Hospice.
William was born in Lyons Falls, on April 1, 1931. Son of Mary G. (Hall) and Fred W. Covey. He was the youngest of 8 children.
On April 12, 1952 William was united in marriage with Genevieve N. Covey. They were married 61 years; Jenny passed February 13, 2014.
William served in the U.S. Navy from April 12, 1949 to April 11, 1950. He was recalled to service on April 12, 1951 until September 28, 1951 where he served aboard the USS Corregidor.
William was a member of Forest Presbyterian Church in Lyons Falls and proudly earned 9 perfect attendance pins for Sunday school. He was a drummer for parades, and a boy scout. Bill loved to hunt and fish, go camping, bowl, and he golfed until he was 86 years old.
Bill worked at Georgia Pacific in the Steam plant and while working there started Covey & Son Refrigeration.
William is survived by his children Deb and Tom Morley (Port Leyden), Laurie Niemeier (Iowa), Daniel and Vicki Covey (Kentucky), Rosemary and Bob Healt (Boonville), Lisa Covey (Lyons Falls) and Reid and Melissa Covey (Constableville). He is also survived by 21 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and 1 great - great granddaughter and a sister in law Marjorie Covey of Frankfort and Sharon Villiere of Lyons Falls, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife of 61 years and a granddaughter, Jessica Niemeier.
His Funeral will be Friday, September 16, 2022, at 10:00 A.M. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St., where Pastor Elizabeth Smith, from Forest Presbyterian Church, Lyons Falls, will officiate. Interment with Military Rites from Charles J. Love Post American Legion and Harland J. Hennessey Post V.F.W., both of Boonville, will follow in Wildwood Cemetery, Lyons Falls. Calling hours are Thursday from 4-7 P.M. at the funeral home. Following the cemetery services everyone is invited to attend a luncheon and celebration of Bill’s life at the Lyons Falls Riverside Park Pavilion, Laura St. Lyons Falls.
