Lyons Falls- Beverly (Jackson) Smith, 76, of Cherry St., widow of Frank, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, April 4, 2017, at Rome Memorial Hospital. She was born in Turin, on January 10, 1941, a daughter of William A. and Helen Brown Jackson. Beverly grew up in Turin and graduated from General Martin High School, Glenfield, with the Class of 1959. Thereafter she was employed at Griffiss Airforce Base, Rome. On June 27, 1959, Beverly was united in marriage with Frank C. Smith, at the Turin United Methodist Church. Afterwards the couple resided in Turin for many years before moving to Lyons Falls. Mr. Smith, a U.S. Army Veteran and retiree from Lyons Falls Pulp and Paper Co. passed away on June 11, 2003. For many years until retiring in 2015, Mrs. Smith was employed as a school bus driver for South Lewis Central School District, in Turin. For several years she was also employed in the meat department at Lyons Falls Great American and at Foodland, in Boonville. For several years Mrs. Smith served as Town Clerk and Tax Collector, for both the Town and Village of Turin. Mrs. Smith was a member of Turin United Methodist Church and a longtime member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She greatly enjoyed playing Bingo at the Turning Stone Casino. In earlier years Beverly greatly enjoyed bowling, participating in several bowling leagues in Boonville and Lowville. She is survived by one son, William E. Smith, Lyons Falls; three daughters, Debra (Maynard B.) Hirschey, Glenfield, Denise Rhone, Madison, Alabama and Dianne Smith, Lyons Falls; three grandchildren, Katie Lynn Butts, Kellie Ann Smith and Frank Hirschey and one brother, William D. (Patricia) Jackson, Lowville. Her Funeral will be Friday at 11:00 A.M. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, where Pastor Patricia Hubman, of the Turin United Methodist Church, will officiate. Interment will be in Turin Cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association of Mid New York, 587 Main St. Suite 109, New York Mills, NY 13471, or to a charity of your choice.
