Lyons Falls - Betty M. (Mackey) Ossont, 79, of Lyonsdale Road passed away on April 18, 2009 at Lewis County General Hospital in Lowville after a long illness. Mrs. Ossont was born in Constableville on November 6, 1929 to Andrew and Clara Hoffert Mackey. Betty attended Constableville schools and later earned her GED. On October 6, 1946, Betty was united in marriage with Lester H. Ossont in Sangerfield, NY. The couple made their home on the East Road at Collinsville until 1968 when they moved to their present home near Lyons Falls. Mrs. Ossont was employed for several years in the cafeteria at South Lewis High School in Turin, first as a food server, then later as a cashier. Mr. Ossont, a veteran of WWII and a retiree from Georgia Pacific Company in Lyons Falls, died on September 11, 2007. Mrs. Ossont was a member of St. Martin's Church in Port Leyden. She greatly loved and enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and was accomplished at crocheting. Surviving are three sons and a daughter-in-law, Lester J. and his companion, Patricia Price, Bruce W. and Elizabeth, all of Lyonsdale, and Andrew R. of Forestport; a daughter, Deborah A. Ossont of Lyons Falls; eleven grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Reginald Mackey of Liverpool, and Richard and Patricia Mackey of Rome; and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Audrey and Edward Kolasa of Boonville, and Germaine and David Clute of Greig. Betty was predeceased by a son, Leslie R., on May 10, 1947; a daughter, Bethany M., on December 18, 1969; three brothers, Bernard, William, and Ronald Mackey; and two sisters, Mary Lou Wakefield and Winifred Mae Podkowka. Her funeral will be Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. at the Trainor Funeral Home, Inc., 143 Schuyler Street, Boonville, where the Reverend Stephen Gratto, pastor of St. Martin's Church, Port Leyden, will officiate. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Port Leyden. Calling hours are Tuesday 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lyons Falls Fire Company Ambulance Fund.
