Bette Jean Bowen (formerly Taman) a long time resident of Rome died Friday December 8 after a short illness. Bette was born in Stittville in 1927, where she lived until she married Fredrick Charles Bowen, a Rome native in 1948. Bette was employed at A&P Grocery Store, Montgomery Ward Department Store, and Shopper’s Service. Bette was a member of the Rome First United Methodist Church. Bette is predeceased by her husband, a child, Gary, and a grandchild, Emi. She is survived by her children Fredrick Mark Bowen and Thomas Floyd Bowen, grandchild Elliott Grant, and great-grandchild Esme August Alpert. Thomas and his wife Denise Marie reside at Brantingham, Mark and his partner Anne Rowlands reside in Boonville, and Elliott, his wife Erika Alpert and Esme reside in Elmhurst Il. The family of Anne: Joe, Kate, and Shari Rowlands, reside in Morrisville. Over the last few years, Bette has lived in Brantingham and Boonville. Per Bette’s wishes there will be no funeral or calling hours.
A springtime graveside service is anticipated. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Rome First United Methodist Church may be offered.
