Bessie R. Hulbert, 97, formerly of Payne Road, widow of Theodore R. Hulbert, passed away Monday, October 23, 2006, at the Lewis County Extended Care Facility, Lowville. She was born November 19, 1908 in Montague, a daughter of Chester and Bessie Hamblin Joy. She grew up in the Town of Montague and graduated from Lowville Academy. On November 4, 1930, Bessie was united in marriage with Theodore R. Hulbert. The couple operated dairy farms, and in 1942 they purchased the former Fred Williams farm on Williams Road, East Martinsburg, retiring in 1962. In 1963 they moved to the Payne Road, Turin. Mrs. Hulbert was a current member of the Turin United Methodist Church, and former member of the Glenfield United Methodist Church. She was a member of the East Martinsburg Home Bureau and the United Methodist Church Women. She is survived by three daughters: Betty J. Black and husband Russell of Turin, Ardeth Zehr and husband Abe of Watertown, and Carol Hulbert of Lowville; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by two brothers, Floyd and Ray Joy. The funeral service for Mrs. Hulbert will be at 12:00 pm Friday at the Turin United Methodist Church, with Rev. Billie Jean Melton, Pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Turin Cemetery. A calling hour will precede the funeral service at the church beginning at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Turin United Methodist Church, the Martinsburg United Methodist Church, or to the Brownville United Methodist Church. Arrangements are in the care of the Trainor Funeral Home, Inc., Boonville.
