Bernard G. Kent, 94, a native of Remsen, and former resident of Boonville, passed away on Friday, June 2, 2006, in Kissimmee, Florida. He was born on November 13, 1911, a son of J. Grant and Jennie Barnett Kent. At an early age he moved to Boonville with his family and graduated from Boonville High School with the Class of 1930. After that Mr. Kent attended Tarkio College, Tarkio, MO., graduating from the Japanese Language School of the University of Michigan. Later he received his Bachelors Degree in Political Science from the University of Maryland, also attending graduate school at the University of Maryland and Virginia. Mr. Kent served in the U.S. Army during WWII, and then he served in occupied Japan with the U.S. Army from 1946 until 1959. During that time Mr. Kent also served in the Korean Conflict. He retired from his career in the U.S.Amry on November 1, 1964, and for ten years thereafter, Mr. Kent was employed for the Defense Intelligence Agency in Washington, D.C. retiring in 1975. In 1979 the Kents moved to Kissimmee, Fla. Bernard was united in marriage with Marjorie Bentley on July 9, 1941, in Windham, N.Y. Mrs. Kent died on May 29, 1997. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Boonville, Masonic Lodge of Tokyo, Japan # 2, F. & A.M., Elks Lodge in Virginia, Moose Club, Harland J. Hennessey Post V.F.W., Boonville, Charles J. Love Post American Legion, Boonville, Sons of the American Revolution, Orders of Founders and Patriots, and Sons of the American Legion. He is survived by a son, Martin A. Kent, and wife, Elizabeth, Decatur, Alabama, one daughter; Deborah Kent Dodge, and husband, Edward, Kissimmee, Fla., sister, June Backer, Fallon, NV., one grandson; Jeffrey David Kent, and wife, Shana, Chattanooga, TN., great grand children; Chad Martin Kent, and Cara Elizabeth Kent. He was predeceased by three brothers; Howard Kent, 1972, Silas J. Kent, in 1996, and Allison F. Kent, in 1997. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Saturday, June 24, 2006, at 3:00 P.M. at the Bethel Church, Rt. 12, south of Alder Creek. Interment will follow in the Bethel Church Yard Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to Salvation Army, 14 Clinton Place, Utica, N.Y. 13501, or to the Bethel Church Fund, in care of the Remsen-Steuben Historical Society P.O.
