Boonville - Barbara E. Guy passed away in Boonville on Monday, May 25, 2009. A native of Concord, New Hampshire, she was born on May 10, 1923 to James and Mabel Webster Guy. She graduated from Port Jervis High School in Port Jervis, NY, and St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing in Port Chester, NY. In 1948, Barbara entered the Order of Franciscan Sisters of Allegany, New York, where she was confirmed as Sr. Mary Robert. As a sister, she enthusiastically served as emergency room nurse at St. Clareï¿(TM)s Hospital in New York City, staff nurse in the infirmary at the St. Francis Mother House in Allegany, NY, and operating room nurse at St. Francis Hospital in Miami Beach, FL, where she also served as Mother Superior. Barbara returned to secular life in 1972 but continued to serve the Lord in all her deeds. She was a medical-surgical nurse at Monroe Regional Hospital in Ocala, FL prior to retiring in 1990. She moved to Boonville in 1998 to be closer to her family and was a communicant of St. Josephï¿(TM)s Church in Boonville. Her ready good humor, sincere kindness and generous nature blessed the lives of all who knew her. Her survivors include a nephew, Skipp Porteous of NYC, and two nieces and their husbands, Linda and Daryl Marcy of Boonville and Barbara and Reed Ferguson of Lexington, VA. She was predeceased by a sister, Marian Porteous in 1985, and a close cousin, Marian Wagner in 2007. Her family extends their sincere thanks to the staff of Sunset Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, remembering especially C Wing, for the care and kindness extended to Barbara. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 9:00 a.m. at St. Josephï¿(TM)s Church in Boonville, with the Reverend Donald H. Karlen officiating. There are no calling hours. Interment will be private in North Hillsdale Cemetery, North Hillsdale (Columbia County), NY. Barbara loved all animals, always enjoying the company of a dog and cat.
