Audrey J. Gilbert

August 4, 1937 — June 6, 2010

Boonville, NY & Bushnell, FL - Audrey J. Zeigler Gilbert, 72, a summer resident of Devoe Road, passed away on Sunday, June 6, 2010 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Utica, while surrounded by her loving husband and family. A native of Boonville, she was born on August 4, 1937 at the Zeigler family residence on Ford Street, a daughter of Beverly W. and Florence (Miller) Zeigler. Audrey graduated from Boonville Central School with the Class of 1955, and thereafter was employed as a secretary at the former General Electric Co., Utica. She was later employed in the inventory department of Mercer's Dairy Co. in Boonville. On September 6, 1958, Audrey was united in marriage with John M. Gilbert at Boonville Methodist Church. This was a happy and enduring union lasting for fifty-two years. The couple made their home first in Barneveld, and later moved to the Dean Road near Boonville, where they raised their family. In 1990, Mr. Gilbert retired from United Parcel Service in 1990 and the couple began spending their winters in Bushnell, FL and their summers at their Devoe Road residence. Audrey's greatest joy in life was being a loving, devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was the epitome of the word 'mother'. She possessed a great love for all her family, especially taking great pride in the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren. Her children's joy was her happiness. She will be fondly remembered for her special Sunday dinners, baking, crocheting, making homemade ornaments, handmade dolls, and doll clothes. Working on crossword puzzles was a daily pleasure for her. She and John greatly enjoyed traveling around the United States, from seeing the crystal clear lakes of the High Sierras to filming elk in the valleys of Utah. She was a member of Boonville United Methodist Church, the New Hope United Methodist Church of Istachatta, FL, Avion Travel Club (Silver Bullet Travel Trailers), Crown Club, Florida Chapter of the F.M.C.A. Travelcade Club, Boonville American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, and the Florida Chapter of the V.F.W. In addition to her husband, John, she is survived by three daughters and their husbands, Tamara L. and John DePoalo of Port Leyden, Kimberly D. and Fred Baker of Boonville, and Julie A. and Mark Mark Pallas of Lee Center; seven grandchildren, Sara, Jared, and Jenna Rogers, Jessica Earl, Melissa Baker, and Briana and Brandon Pallas; and two sisters-in-law, Louise Zeigler and Sylvia Zeigler, both of Boonville. She was predeceased by two brothers, Ervin and Gordon, both in 1984, and her sister, Barbara, who died at age five. Her funeral will be Friday at 10:00 a.m. at the Trainor Funeral Home, Inc., 143 Schuyler Street, Boonville, where Rev. William A. Mudge, pastor of the Boonville United Methodist Church will officiate. Interment will be in Boonville Cemetery. Visitation hours are Thursday 1-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
