Lake Delta (Rome) - Arthur Henry Wright, 93, of Karlen Road, formerly of Lee Center, passed away at Rome Memorial Hospital on Saturday, June 12, 2010, while surrounded by the loving care of his family. He was born at his family's residence on East State Street, Lowville, on August 31, 1916, a son of LeRoy C. and Bertha M. (Bickford) Wright. Arthur grew up in Lowville, receiving his education at rural schools and Lowville Academy. Later he took extension courses at MVCC in Building Maintenance. He was employed as a carpenter during the construction of the barracks at Pine Camp, now Fort Drum, and in the construction of the Kraft Food plant in Lowville. He was employed as caretaker for the Fisher Forestry and Realty Co. of Lyons Falls. After moving to the Rome area, he was employed as a custodian for the Rome City School district until retiring in 1977. Mr. Wright was married to Anna Mae Kennell at the Mennonite Church, Naumburg. The couple was later divorced. On July 3, 1950, Arthur was united in marriage with Marrietta McCormick, at the Lowville Methodist Church parsonage by Rev. Roger Williams. The couple made their home in the Rome and Lee areas. Arthur was a charter member of Delta United Methodist Church, where he devoted many hours of volunteer labor following his retirement, and was a past member of Lewis County Historical Society. He greatly enjoyed vegetable gardening. In addition to his wife, Marietta, he is survived by a daughter-in-law, Margaret (Eddy) Wright of Rome; grandchildren Jason and Denise Wright of Taberg, and Marc Wright of Oriskany; and great-grandchildren Preston, Brooke, Madison, Emma and Taylor. He was predeceased by a son, David Arthur on October 6, 2004, and a twin brother, Albert Byron Wright, in 1996. His funeral will be Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at the Delta United Methodist Church, where Rev. Lamar and Rev. Inell Claypool, pastors, and Rev. Robert Wollaber, pastor of Ilion United Methodist Church and a longtime friend, will officiate. Interment will be in Boonville Cemetery. Visitation hours are Tuesday 5-8 p.m. at the Nunn & Harper Funeral Home, Inc,. 418 North George Street, Rome.
