Boonville- Arthur H. Ludwig, age a former resident of Old Forge and more recently of the Pines Road, Hawkinsville, passed away on Wednesday, May 27, 2020, at Sunset Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Boonville, while under the loving care of his wife Dorla. Arthur was born in Cortland, on April 26, 1923, a son of John P. and Nina Gaston Ludwig. He grew up in Cortland, where he received his education through 12th grade at Cortland City School. Beginning in 1943, Mr. Ludwig served his country in WWII, in the U.S. Navy, stationed Binghamton, Sampson, NY, Memphis TN, New Orleans, LA, Lion 4, San Bruno, CA, NS Depot, St. Albans, LI, NY and in the South Pacific Theater at Manus, Island. He was honorably discharged at Lido Beach, L.I. NY, on June 27, 1946, with Rank of Baker 3rd Class. After serving his country, Arthur returned to Cortland, where he was employed at Cobako Bakery. For twenty one years until retiring on December 31, 1970, Mr. Ludwig was employed as a Police Officer for the City of Cortland Police Department. On January 2, 1971, he began employment for 1st National Bank of Cortland, retiring from Alliance Bank of Cortland, after twelve years as courier between the five bank branches. He married Jane Reagan in Cortland; later they were divorced. On April 27, 1962, Arthur married Dorla Dillenbeck, in Cortland. In 1981, the couple moved to Old Forge, living on Upper Joy Tract Road until 1989, when they moved to their present home on the Pines Road, near Hawkinsville. While living in Old Forge, Mr. Ludwig was employed at Foley Lumber Co, Old Forge, as a caretaker for Adirondack League Club, Bisby Lodge, near Old Forge, and as a chair life operator at McCauley Mountain Ski Area, Old Forge. Mr. Ludwig was a member of First Baptist Church, Boonville; while living in Old Forge the Ludwig's attended Niccolls Memorial Presbyterian Church. He was a member of Charles J. Love Post # 406, American Legion, Boonville, and a former member of Covey Pashley Post American Legion, Old Forge and a former member of Baron Steuben Masonic Lodge of Lee Center. He was a fan of the New York Yankee Baseball Team; his favorite football teams were the Dallas Cow Boys, Penn State, and the New England Patriots. In addition to his wife, Dorla, Arthur is survived by one son and daughter in law, David J. (Susie) Ludwig, New Bloomfield, PA; nephews, Robert (Susan) Ludwig, AZ, Michael Ludwig and partner, David Fagestrom, San Francisco, CA and a niece, Sherrill Parsons, Canandaigua, NY. He was predeceased by a sister, Catherine Marie Dickinson, and a brother, Robert E. and a nephew, Edward Dickinson. Dorla wishes to express a note of sincere thanks and appreciation to the C-Wing staff at Sunset Nursing & Rehabilitation Center for the kind and loving care which was given to Arthur. Funeral services will be on Thursday, June 4, 2020, at 11:00 A.M. at Boonville Cemetery, where Pastor Joe Fellar, from the First Baptist Church, Boonville will officiate and where Military Rites will accorded by Charles J. Love Post American Legion, Harland J. Hennessey Post V.F.W. and Tun Tavern Marine Corps League, all of Boonville. There are no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Boonville, 325 Post St. Boonville, NY 13309. His arrangements are entrusted to Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. Boonville.
