Constableville- A. James Jim Longway, 84, a native and life resident of Constableville, passed away on Monday, March 18, 2019, at Sunset Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Boonville, while surrounded by the loving care of his family. Jim was born on the Longway homestead on Rt. 26, near Constableville, on January 12, 1935. He received his education at a rural school on Mohawk Hill, completing his education at Constableville Central School. For many years thereafter he was employed as a heavy equipment operator for the Town of West Turin Highway Department and for J & C. Saw Mill, West Leyden. From 1972, until December 31, 1995, Mr. Longway served as Superintendent of Highways for the Town of West Turin. On July 16, 1955, Jim was united in marriage with Rose Betsinger, at St. Josephs Church, Boonville. After their marriage the couple settled at their present home on the Zimmer Road, near Constableville. Jim greatly enjoyed operating heavy equipment, performing mechanical work on large motors, welding, constructing log cabins and hunting. He especially enjoyed going to dances with his wife Rose. He attended the Constableville United Methodist Church. In addition to his wife of 64 years, Jim is survived by a son, David Longway, Boonville; a daughter in law, Deborah Longway, Constableville and a daughter and son in law, Jennifer (Jeff) Lovenduski, Constableville. He was predeceased by a son, Joseph S. Longway, on September 28, 2011. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Eric, Andrew (Michele), Thomas, Steven (Angela), John (Jolene) and Kevin Lord (Heather), one granddaughter, Carrie Kittleman (Gary); eight great grandchildren, Hunter, Emily, Alex, Sophia, Kara, Josie, Anderson and Bryce and at the present time, Jim was looking forward to the birth of a ninth great grandchild. Also surviving is one sister, Joyce Gillette, Boonville. He was predeceased by a half-brother, Patrick OBrien and by siblings, Elton Longway and Ardell Brach. A graveside service, will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at 1:00 P.M at St. John's Cemetery, Mohawk Hill, with a celebration of his life to follow at the family residence. There are no calling hours.
