Boonville- Anita Gail (Wright) Hutton, 82, wife of Jerry and a life resident of Moose River Road, passed away peacefully, on Monday, March 31, 2025, at Rome Memorial Hospital, while surrounded by the loving care of her family.
Anita was born in Boonville, on January 15, 1943, during the severe blizzard of 1943, a daughter of Vinal and Adrienne Lalonde Wright. She grew up on the Moose River Road and received her education at Boonville Central School, graduating with the Class of 1961. During her youth, Anita participated in Girl Scouts and while in high school, she enjoyed cheer leading. Following high school, Anita attended Oswego State Teachers School (SUNY Oswego), graduating with the Class of 1965.
In the fall of 1965, Mrs. Hutton began her very illustrious over thirty-year career as a 5th grade teacher at Boonville Central and Adirondack Central Schools. Anita always placed her complete heart and soul into her teaching career and to state that Mrs. Hutton brought “a spark” to teaching is an understatement! In addition to teaching “by the book,” Mrs. Hutton was famous for teaching her students real life lessons such as, guiding her students in creating a life under the ocean in a large section of her class room or making old fashioned root beer in the class room and raising eye brows using “real” beer bottles, demonstrating the science of expansion and contraction using metal maple syrup containers, or teaching students how to make Turtle Soup, the science of making maple syrup with pancakes made in the class room. In a 5th grade classroom headed by Mrs. Hutton, “there was never a dull moment,” and her students were quick to learn which school behaviors were acceptable and ones that brought definite wrath and were to be carefully avoided! Mrs. Hutton is also fondly remembered for the many field trips which she took her students on, ranging from tours of the museums at Cooperstown, to extensive overnight field trips to Niagara Falls and Canada, with a stop over in Rochester, thrown in for good measure. Mrs. Hutton greatly enjoyed working with the team of 5th grade teachers, including Mr. Boome, Mr. Wason and Mr. Bernard.
After retiring, she often substituted and being artistic, Mrs. Hutton enjoyed substituting in the school art department. Through her outstanding teaching abilities, Mrs. Hutton certainly left a lasting mark on her students, often launching her student’s educational years to a higher level and she is fondly remembered as a teacher who loved and cared for each student.
Mrs. Hutton was a lifelong faithful member of Trinity Episcopal Church, of Boonville, freely giving of her time and talents, serving in every capacity in the life of the church, including years of heading up many largely attended church dinners.
After retiring Anita and her husband, Jerry enjoyed traveling extensively around the U.S., especially making many trips to and staying in the Big Sky state of Montana, specifically at Ennis, where they enjoyed the mountain wild flowers and beautiful scenery. Their beloved canine friends, “Pepsi” and “J.R.” were their constant and loyal companions on their trips around the country. When not touring the country, Anita and Jerry enjoyed spending time at their camp on Moose River.
Anita will be fondly remembered for her tremendous talents in cooking and baking and she also greatly enjoyed the hobby of painting and was a member of the Red Hat Society as well as an avid bird and wildlife observer. She will be fondly remembered for her sharp wit, great sense of humor and very generous and helpful nature to everyone. During her life, Anita certainly “stored up much treasure in Heaven.”
In addition to her husband of nearly 60 years, Jerry W. Hutton, Anita is survived by a son, Chad Hutton and daughter in law, Sheryl (Rubyor) Hutton and grandchildren, Jack and Troy Hutton; her daughter, Shana (Hutton) Kraeger and son-in-law, Daniel Kraeger and her grandchildren, Adam and Grant Kraeger. She is also survived by two sisters, Andrea Hirschey, Valerie Ingerham and sister in law, Cindy Obernesser, the children of Janis Lyke and many nieces, nephews and grandnieces, grandnephews, cousins and special friends, the Sessions family.
