Ava- Andrew S. Nellenback, 76, of State Rt. 26, husband of Gloria, passed away on Thursday, June 2, 2022, at his residence while under the loving care of his wife, family and Hospice. Affectionately known as "Andy," he was born in West Leyden, on April 12, 1946, a son of Joseph and Frances Violet Bator Nellenback. He grew up in West Leyden area, where he received his education, graduating from West Leyden Central School, with the Class of 1964. Thereafter, Mr. Nellenback was employed on road construction, prior to employment at Rome Iron Mills, Rome Manufacturing Co and Industrial Fabricators of Syracuse, before 35 years of employment as a welder. On May 21, 1966, Andy was united in marriage with Gloria J. Sturtevant and recently Andy and Gloria celebrated 56 years of a loving union. After their marriage, the couple lived in Rome, West Leyden and Taberg, before moving to their present home in Ava, in 1972. Andy enjoyed playing and watching softball; over the years Andy played softball on the Hideaway, West Leyden Hotel, Nick's Tavern and the Milk Plant Softball teams. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing, playing horseshoes, cards and Wii bowling. His greatest enjoyment of all was his grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Gloria, Andrew is survived by his children; April (James) Montana, Ava, Gina (Patrick, Jr.) Lasek, Brownville, Shelly (Joseph) Goutermout, Watertown and Jeffrey (Kelly) Nellenback, West Leyden; twelve grandchildren, Amanda, Shannon, Kimberly, Andrew, Morgan, Patrick, III, Mikayla, Brittany, Ryan, Dominick, Sarah and Megan and twelve great grandchildren; brothers, Anthony (Elaine), Joe (Norma) and Sandy (Dan). He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Frances Nellenback; an infant sister, Frances; a brother, Frank, sister, Frances Williamson, brother, John, sister, Dorothy Faulk and an infant great grandson, Odin Scott Caton. Andy's family wishes to express a note of thanks and appreciation to the staff of Hospice and Palliative Care, especially to nurse Joe. In keeping with his wishes, Andrew was donated to medical science studies at SUNY Upstate Medical Center, Syracuse. There are no calling hours, however, relatives and friends are invited to attend a celebration of Andy's life, on Saturday, June 11, 2022, from 12 Noon until 5:00 P.M., at The American Hotel, Ann Street, Boonville.
