Andrew Michael Locash

July 10, 1997 — January 15, 2024

Forestport – Andrew Michael LoCash, 26, of North Lake Road, passed away in a tragic kayaking accident on January 15, 2024.

Andrew was born in New Hartford on July 10, 1997, a son of Joseph A., LoCash Jr.. and Penny Levensailor LoCash. He grew up in the Boonville and Forestport area, graduating from Adirondack Central School with the Class of 2015. While in high school Andrew was a member of the Varsity Baseball team where he will be remembered as a talented pitcher and first baseman. His games were attended and enjoyed by numerous family members.

Following his high school graduation Andrew was employed for a time at the Buffalo Head Restaurant and also C&R Hardware, both of Forestport. A true outdoorsman, Andrew found his passion working in the woods harvesting timber for Eric Koenig of Koenig Logging. He truly loved his job in the wilderness, working alongside Eric, Eric’s son Trevor Koenig, and his best friend Cody Sperry in the woods of Forestport and the surrounding communities.

Andrew’s passion for the outdoors extended beyond work. Bonfires, Budweiser’s, and backroads are what brought Andrew joy. Countless hours were spent fishing and kayaking with family, friends, and his fur babies Max and Maggie. They were his partners in crime he loved with all his heart; they went everywhere with Andrew.

Andrew had an infectious smile and warm heart. He was a great friend and loved by so many. He had a soft spot for kids and will fondly be remembered by his best friend and neighbor Cody Sperry and his children: Aiden, Audrey, and Wyatt, who lovingly referred to Andrew as “Uncle Gia”. When we mention that soft spot for kids, did Andrew tell you he was going to be an Uncle! He was joyfully expecting his sisters first child, a niece to be born in July.

Andrew had a special Aunt Tina Compo who was like a second mother to him. He had been a great help to Tina in recent months helping with the care of his uncle Richard Compo, who passed away on October 30, 2023.

He is survived by his parents: Joseph A. Jr. and Penny LoCash; a sister Angela LoCash, all of Forestport, a brother Joshua LoCash, Raleigh, NC, and his paternal grandparents: Anna (James) Pelno, Forestport, and several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents: Warren Sr. and Joan J. Levensailor, an aunt Jeanne Rundle, an uncle Michael Kowalchuk, and friends Justin Smith and Alex Nellenbach.

A celebration of Andrew’s life is currently being planned and will be announced in the near future. Memorial contributions may be directed to a Go Fund Me (Andrew’s Beautiful Fur Babies) which has been set up for the future care of his beloved dogs Maggie and Max. Funeral arrangements are in care of the Trainor Funeral Home Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, where online messages of sympathy may be made at www.trainorfuneralhome.com.
